curious...

What PSI are you all running?

I was running 32PSI on stocks per recommended on the label in the door jam.

I'm now running 35PSI.

BTW... CHECK YOUR PSI AFTER YOU HAD IT INSTALLED! MINE WERE 50PSI http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

i run at 38 psi on highway . it is a stiff ride but helps with mileage . offroad 20 psi seems safe for us with stock wheels if you have a 8 or 9 inch wheel you should be able to drop down to 15 psi no problem and even lower if needed .

man your truck looks great with the rack and front guard .

did you have your chassis computer adjusted for bigger tires? i doubt your mileage changed that much, it's just a confused computer, now that you have less revolutions per mile.

MarK M
04-05-2006, 08:34 PM
do they have computer chips (superchips) for the H3's?

I'd like to re-adjust my tire size too...

Steve - SanJose
04-05-2006, 08:37 PM
I wouldn't expect that big of a mileage hit. Essentially the gearing just got taller about 5% which in itself doesn't worsen mileage. But the taller gearing effect means you need to stuff your foot harder into the gas pedal to make it accelerate which can't help the mileage. Can't imagine how slow an H3 would feel with 37's.

On 33's was getting about 300 miles per tank. On 35's I'm getting about 270. HI tells me that on the OE 32's she was getting about 320 so there seems to be a pattern.

I have a spreadsheet at work of MPG over the last several tanks. I'll post a screen shot tomorrow.

that's about 6.3% change from OE to 33's, and 10% 33 to 35. even that's not completely right though, since your odometer is off. has anyone tried asking the dealers if they can change the chassis programming? i know on the H2 they only went up to 35" tires, but they may be able to help on the H3. worth asking.

i havent reprogramed either the 20% # i just pulled out of my a$$ http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

i noticed a big difference between city and highway driving with the stock 33's i had even gotten 21.3 mpg coming home from pismo one time http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

seems like milage is just the same now if im on city streets or runnin 70 mph on the freeway . i also have a couple hills on my way to work and turn about 5k rpm or more to keep my speed up . as someone had mentioned just have to drive with foot in it a little more http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif thats what sucks the fuel down . i think the days of 20 mpg are gone once we switched to these 35's http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but its well worth it. i still havent cranked my torsion bars http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Don't worry about seeing 20mpg again. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I've been running base 32's for 15000 miles and haven't seen more than 18mpg.

If you need the clearance of 35's by all means do it. The extra buck a week for gas won't kill you. But if you are one of many H3 street users commplaining about lack of power the last thing you want to do is mod the truck to have taller gearing via 35's or 37's (slow will just get slowerrrrrrrr).

Not totally correct. There IS a program change.

I went from the OEM 32's to the Toyo 33's and the dealership couldn't call GM, because it was Saturday and GM is only open Mon - Fri.

My main reason I was at the dealer was to have my rocker protection installed.

I asked if any GM dealer could do the reprogramming of the computer and they said yes.

The Hummer dealer is over 3 hours away one way and I made an appointment with the local GMC dealer who called GM to get the codes to reset the mileage/odometer reading which also affects the ABS system. Charge was $105.00

Don't know if they can do anything for the 33 - 35 size change.

Morning All http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Okay - I got a little geeky this morning after reading the above comments and decided to do some math. Here is what I learned: 315's may negativly change MPG, but not by much, if at all.

Looking at Bridgestones specs the Dueler AT 285/75R16 turns 633 revs/mile. Per BFG the 315/75R16 AT KO turns 601 revs/mile. This gives a "mileage factor" (MF) of 1.053244592. So for every mile the odomiter indicates, multiply that by the MF to get your actual mileage traveled.

You can see in the screen shot below what the adjusted mileage numbers are with the corresponding MPG. It really doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Do you happen to know the size of the tires and rims on the red one? And are they BFG muds? Thanks.

hey kracker , are you wondering about the red one just above in the snow or the red one next to mine at dealer , the one at dealer has 33's toyo open country mud terrains mounted on a 20 inch rim not sure the width or make . Kets red one in the snow sets on 35's with stock wheels . my 35's are also on stock wheels that i painted black

Those tailguards look great with line X.

And Ketkat, that snow pic looks like fun! I'm hoping to see some snow tomorrow. I was supposed to take my rig out with some jeepers, but they flaked. So I'm going to Shirttail Canyon tomorrow. There might not be any snow but I will post pics either way.

Bebe's line-x fixation might be getting a little unhealthy. It's only a matter of time before she just starts grabbing stuff around the house and spraying it. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

The BebeDaddy is watching!

Oh and TGL, I was going to put on the "other" things, but it's been too cold. Need 70 degrees. And a little more time.
I'm taking them to Moab and will put them on there!

Pretty quiet, ride is good. Handling is a little off but the 13" wide thing I'm sure is the reason.
