If I remember correctly this guy was on his first outing and never rolled his windows down. You can't listen to guides with your windows up. He was also recovered wrong. Who's bright idea was it to winch/pull him down the hill.

Well...let me see now. As I recall:

Craig blasted up that hill twice in his H2 with no problems, so this guy thinks he can make it cause he's got an H1. Why do people in H1's think they can do anything an H2 can do???? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

He lost his forward momentum and got stuck. His front-end drifted and he lost his forward direction and let the front-end drift sideways. His next move was to try to turn the tires uphill and blast the power...the whole rig went moreso sideways, slid downward into a rut and then rolled over. Once it rolled over, the thing actually slid down the hill until it came to rest.

They couldn't recover him uphill for several reasons. Nobody had 150' of cable AND the whole rig was buried about 14" into the ground and there was no place to attach to. The story tells the rest.

No idea on damage total or what became of the rig. Classic example of people thinking a Hummer can do anything and go anywhere. Rumor has it there's a little something called "talent" that's involved..... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

If off-road were your only use for an off-road rig, it is a simple conslusion that YOU would want an H1--. If you get a retard, or newbie behind the wheel of any capable off-road vehicle--- allowing it to be victim enough for lateral instability, it will roll.
If any off-road ride were put in the same position that this H1's driver put his H1 in, it would have rolled---- only even more easily. It's that simple. This isn't an H2 supremacy issue. Not at all. And this is coming from an H2 enthusiast who has absolute respect for the H2.

The vehicle is not at fault in that one from all the pics I see...2 people are at fault:
1. the driver - The difference between Genius and Stupidity? Genius has limits...
2. the spotter(s) - they should have been in communication with him at all times, if he didn't roll down his window and he didn't have a CB (an offroading must have IMO) then they should have discussed it beforehand so he didn't get sideways.

I have spotted for several people and if they get in trouble or get so much as a scratch...I take it personally - every spotter should.

because with a decent spotter and a little attention they should be able to...they have the clearance, torque, balance.

There was no spotter...he was out on his own and running around. It was 100% driver error...and his overwhelming certainty that a Hummer can go anywhere.

This is absolutely not a comparative model/make thing. It was a stupidity thing.

As a H1 and H2 Owner I diffently feel like my H1 can do 50 percent more then my H2. Since I go Off-roading about every other weekend. That hill doesn't look like much of a hill for any h1 or h2.
(I have been in an h2 that rolled. I wasn't the driver) If any of you know anything about H1's and there years. Every H1 98 and prior has the brake modulation so all you have to do to lock up the differential is to push the brake. Just by looking at that hummer it looks like a 99 or 2000. Steve you could probley confirm that. But with the 99 and above you have the tt2 (99)and tt4 (2000 +) to keep your differintal lock you have to keep a certain RPM i believe it is 1200 RPM if it drops below that you differintal will become unlock and you will lose your momentium. Probley he had to back up to get the forward momentum (to lock up the differintal again) and i would guess that is where he went wrong. But in 2004 they have the Electronic Locker (kindof like detroit lockers)

the h2 has a button you push to lock up your differintal. h2 was built to be dummy proof. New h1 owners in new h1's ( 99-2003)really need to learn how to work the TT4 before taking on big hills. So there for when you get a hummer h2 owner with little experience and alot of balls you will see lot of damage. but that h1 doesn't look to bad for what happened to it.
