View Full Version : Gobi and Manik racks - what does the wife think?
Guys, I want to add a Gobi or Manik full rack to my white 2003 H2. I really like the look and think it will add convenience.
The prob is the wife DOES NOT like the look. She kind of thinks they look ugly and can't see any function. I tell her for camping we can just throw the luggage and misc **** up there and strap it down, but we live in Vancouver where it rains a lot so she says that is not feasible.
For those with the racks, what did your significant other say? How did you finally convince them this rack is the right way to go?
Thanks

The wife really didn't go in the garage back then, so she didn't even notice the for days. "Just somethin' for the truck, babe". Then, BAM, it was the truck. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We're kidding here, right? Let's see. On one hand, we have the very best H2 accessory on the planet. And on the other hand we have a giant chrome jungle gym. Yeah, it's a tough call.
When GOBI and Manik first released their products at SEMA (2003) I went into the Manik booth and I guess I insulted the owner somehow. He proceeded to tell me how he had been making racks and ladders for motor homes since before I was born, and I said "Yup. That's exactly what it looks like. A rack for a phucking motor home."
Enough said.

Promise your wife you won't put one on her car.
It's YOUR rig, right?
Sorry your wife doesn't like the rack. Mine thought it looked really cool and dug it!

Just tell her to go in the house and cook supper(or shutup and get me a beer). That will change the whole subject and she won't care about the rack any longer.
Thanks for the suggestions. So if I understand, I should connect with a good back hand and tell her to shut up and go cook dinner after first getting me a beer. I'll let you know how things work out this weekend.
Does anyone have a more strategic plan. Sure I can just buy and install it, though then she will hold this against me when she blows hugh bucks on something stupid like jewelry. I'd rather convince her that the rack is a good idea. I personally don't see too much functionality and only like the looks - she hates the look.
For those with one on, do you really find it practical or did you only buy it for the look?

My S.O. has one on her rig. So do I. Very functional!

Sun Tzu said:
The art of PAD is of vital importance to
the State of HUMMER bliss. It is a matter of life and death, a road to safety or to ruin. Therefore, it is a subject that must be thoroughly PADDED.

More Sun TZu "The art of Pad"
Arms, however beautiful, are instruments
of ill omen, hateful to all creatures and used for much padding.
Those who know the way of life do not
wish to employ them until post count is lacking.
The superior man prefers his higher
nature, but in time of pad, will call upon
his lower nature.
Hummer Padding is an instrument of ill omen,
and not the instruments of the superior
man, until he has no choice but to employ
them.
Peace is what he prizes; victory through
pads from his fingers is to him undesirable.
To consider Superior Padding skills desirable
would be to delight in killing useful topics, and he who delights in killing useful topics will not prevail on the world.
To celebrate when man’s higher nature
comes forth is the prized position; when
his lower nature comes forth is time for
mourning.
He who has killed multitudes of topics should weep for them; and the victor in
battle has his place accorded as in a
funeral.
That was a lovely pad. Very Poetic.
