This weekend, we (actually my stereo guy) installed 3 cameras with the Eclipse 2454 system.

One camera is on the back of my enclosed trailer and the other 2 are on my rear bumper... one being for the hitch and one just for rear viewing.

Anyway, I have a problem that we didn't notice until it was done.

To view any of the cameras, you switch the deck to VTR. Since the VTR mode utilizes it's own audio, you can't play the radio while it's in VTR.

Since I don't need any sound with the cameras, is there any way to have the sound for the radio still playing while using VTR?

I know in my Yukon I could play DVD's,Cd's, anything while viewing the camera.

How can I do it with the 2454?

Well, you will prbably not like the answer, but you will need to get ahold of the eclipse backeye cam 4 pin connector. The 2454 should have an open connector designed specifically for their camera. You would need to a) get that Eclipse plug--not likely without the camera or b) solder onto the 4 pins on the back of the radio--I can give you a pinout of the plug. Did you install a video switcher to change from cam to cam? You will need to select the cam view (info menu then camera I believe) to get the video you want while listening to another source. By selecting VTR, you have locked into whatever is fed to that input; you can't select 2 sources at once.

Excuse my ignorance (and/or stupid questions) but when I get the plug and/or solder the ends in, how does that help? Again, my apologies, I'm not much of a stereo guy.

Please explain what the plug in the back will allow me to do.

Yes, I used a switcher to flip from cam to cam. I ordered a real nice switcher that was like 80 bucks from one of the companies that makes interfaces. It didn't come in so we used a 12 dollar video switcher box until it comes in.

One last question. While waiting to drive through the freakin 2 hour wait to watch the "festival of lights", I shut the key off and when I went to adjust the volume on the steering wheel, it called OnStar...wtf?

It did it several times over the evening but only when the truck is off and you can use the power that stays on for 10 or so minutes. When the truck is running, no problems.

We used the OS2 bose interface and the SWI or ISW (forgot the abbreviation) steering wheel interface. (also the chime one too)

WTF is right!! I have no idea how that could happen. When the key is in the run position, I am assuming that the volume control correctly turns the volume up/down?! Have your installer tie the switched power for the steering wheel control adaptor to the rap power off the OS2 interface and see if that helps. There are 2 data wires from the steering wheel to the bcm , just make sure he got the right one and that he cut it and did not just tap into it (a simple thing he probably knew but just to be sure).

On the cam issue, Eclipse puts a 4 pin port on the back of their video units specifically for their camera to plug into. It works pretty slick actually as it automatically displays the cam view each time the vehicle is put into reverse. You can selcet the cam view at any time from another menu and see that while listening to whatever. YOu will need to interface with that port (either with the plug or by soldering on) to get it to work in the above mentioned fashion. The plug is a small, very specific molex plug that you won't find on anything else (at least that I have ever seen). If you could locate a late model Toyota suv with nav and backup camera it would have the plug you need (wrecking yard?). I don't have any defectives or I would be glad to cut off a plug and send it to you. I can send a pic and/or the pinout if that helps.

pin 1 (top right looking into ass of plug) is yellow video signal
pin 2 top left red is 12v reverse switched
pin 3 lower right white video shield
pin 4 lower lfet black ground

Just one question... is that plug attached to the camera or does it plug in separately?

I ask because if it's separate, perhaps I can buy a replacement from Fujitsu Ten. (of course, those bastards are a PIA to deal with)

It is actually on an extension that plugs into the camera so it might be available separately. I will call eclipse today and see if I can get that part.

Man, I called Fujitsu and they gave me a number for United radio.

I called United and they said the cable was only sold as a set, no replacements available. I guess for 240 bucks, they must figure if you damage the harness, you'll just have to replace the whole damn thing.

Well, that sucks....
