Would a wheel lock work? I have this same question but haven't taken off the tire cover yet to look at what's under there.

I don't advise using wheel locking lug nuts. I had six gorilla locking lug nuts on each wheel on my Denali (22” wheels). I came out one morning in February and my Denali was on blocks. All it takes is a socket that is cone shaped internally and a rubber coated mallet, the lugs come off easily.
I wanted to lock my spare so I went to Home Depot, they have a nice selection of cable style locks. I now have my spare mounted on my rack and it’s locked with a krypton cable lock. (They are commonly used for ladders on cargo racks)
Just my 2 cents worth,
Tim
PS
By the way the Denali was parked in a very nice neighborhood.

I did the cable thing as well. I fugure if someone really wants it they will get it. But it will deter the punk at the mall or movie theater.
