Just got an H2 and took it wheeling for the first time last week - holy $h1t!!! What fun! I had a Jeep CJ back in the 80's and used to go out into the desert for days on end - but our horse ranch takes up all of my time lately. Went out to Afton Canyon (on the Mojave Road) and found....a loose horse!!! It was a runaway - been living in the canyon for over two months now - still with its halter on! Tried in vain to catch it for a couple of hours. What an awesome, MEMORABLE first off-road experience in my new prized possession!!! I'm really enjoying this forum - you all crack me up. Oh and BTW, I've already been flipped off by some a$$h01s in a little rice burner with a Kerry/Edwards sticker and a Bush Lied sticker. Enjoyed every minute of it. I wanna get another NRA sticker for the back of the H2 and REALLY piss 'em off.

Thanks! Actually, don't feel bad for the horse - he is one happy camper. The Mojave river actually flows above ground in this area year round...and consequently he has all the water and greenery he needs. He is actually FAT!

Stomper - it IS a great area. 138 miles of old Indian/Stagecoach/Mail route/Prospector HISTORIC scenery through the Mojave desert - with WATER every 20 to 30 miles! Anyone in CA or coming to CA wanna wheel it with me?
Doc - I know what you mean. I REALLY wanted to get that halter off. We are going back to try again this coming Wed.

Desertfox, take some more pics - I love the look of it! I wish we had something like that out here in Vermont.

Now Ken, while the truck looks nice and all, it is an established fact that Black, White and Pewter aren't really colors....more like an absence or presence of real colors...like RED http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

yeah, god forbid a horse tries to live in its natural habbitat. the nerve of some of these animals is just outlandish.

Scott, welcome! The SoCal Hummer Owners/Offroaders Group is actually quite active. Check out this link for the "local" forum: http://h2club.org/6/ubb.x?a=frm&s=8296099471&f=8756030324 (http://h2club.org/6/ubb.x?a=frm&s=8296099471&f=8756030324)
Obviously that forum is nowhere near as active as this one; but you can get notices of upcoming local events like the 2N17X run this Saturday and "Slitherfest" in September.
Hope to see you in the trails soon! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yet another brilliant comment by the towel boy http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
Let me explain since you apparently couldn't understand what you read. He was not trying to catch the horse to take it home. He was trying to get the halter off http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

My dear moronic Gorton,
I have read your inane ramblings on here for some time now. You really are quite the little village idiot. Obviously you know only the back end of the horse, being a true horse's ass yourself. You really should stick to subjects you know intimately. Like, um, well.....maybe you should just shut the f*ck up.

Oh, and by the way you phecocephalic mongoloid idiot......a horse's natural habitat, unlike yours, does not include restraints.

VT,
I only had my cell-phone camera with me, so the pics are not very high quality...but it gives you a general feel of the place. It is awesome and, for the hours I spent there, I never saw another soul - except the horse.
Heaven.
