The Hummer I am getting (H3) has a power roof, but did that come like that from the factory? I heard the dealer say that they sometimes use another company to actually install the sunroof. How common is this?

Not sure what the "BULL" is about but here is the build sheet for my H3 with the sunroof.

Yours should have Option code CF5 if it is a factory sunroof.

Is it normal for it to be installed by another place, and not from the factory on new H3's?

I have yet to hear of an aftermarket sunroof on an H3. On an H2 yes, but not anything newer then maybe '04 that I have seen.

If you bought an H3 out of Georgia there is a good chance that the sunroof is aftermarket. My friend in Georgia installs sunroofs and Leather trim for local H3 dealers.

I am surprised that it is cheaper for the dealerships to go aftermarket rather than just ordering it that way from the factory. Guess I am glad mine won't be coming from GA.

We couldn't find a green Adventure with a sunroof at any So CA dealer. We were offered but passed on a local sunroof install; didn't want to be on the steep part of the learning curve.

I live in Coloraado and my H3 did not come with the sunroof. The sunroof was installed prior to me picking up the vehicle. I am dissapointed that it is smaller than the factory installed version. It works great but it's about 2" smaller than the factory version.

If your paste this URL into your browser and then replace the VIN # with yours it will pull a copy of the window sticker for you. Works with only a few exceptiions.

The stock roof is huge, but if had my choice I'd get a Webasto panoramic or a huge cloth top.

My saying with an aftermarket installed sunroof is: caveat emptor.
Problem with non-factory installed sunroofs is warranty. The selling dealer should honor the sunroof warranty for the same time span as the rest of the vehicle; however, if you are traveling and the sunroof fails, another dealer does NOT have to honor the warranty on the sunroof.
In addition, another dealer may not be able to obtain parts to even repair, at your cost, the non-factory sunroof. Yes, the selling dealer will most likely reimburse you for any repair, but again, will parts be available.
I, personally, had an experience with a non-factory sunroof installed in MI, but failing in FL. Was not pretty driving back with a plastic garbage bag taped to the roof. The sunroof guide had broken and jammed, even preventing manual closure.

Let me also add that a sunroof designed and installed at the factory has been roll tested for crash worthiness. Aftermarket installed sunroofs MAY weaken the roof structure or in the case of a panoramic sunroof, a roof cross member might be removed. I say might and may, since some suppliers (such as Wabasto installed by their own trained installers) will most likely not weaken or damage anything. I would be more worried about the local sunroof shop and Billy-bob with a reciprocating saw.

As long as were talking about vin #s, I suggest that you cover up the vin window on your dashboard. It's no problem for a thief with the right connections to have your vin run to obtain a key code and drive off with your vehicle, Hummer or otherwise. Just a suggestion.

In Cal its illegal to cover the VIN. Not worth a parking ticket..er..revenue enhancement stream

The Ability to obtain a Key Code from a VIN # has become harder. It is a Dealer Only option now and only available to a few within the dealership, each request is logged as well. It used to be fairly easy to obtain but that has changed in the last 4-6 months.

Key codes are still available to the parts department of any GM dealership.

The only thing that's changed is that now key codes for GM vehicles cost $15 through second party sources where they were previously free. I call for key codes based on vin #s several times a day. If I can do it anyone can. GM codes are a bit harder to obtain since Cross Country took over GM roadside, but then that's not much of a surprise since they (cross country) are entirely useless.

Wouldn't a well connected "bad guy" pay fifteen bucks to have a key code to your H3?

key codes are still easy to obtain, as well as the resistance for a pass system that uses a chip. i had my VIN on my Vette covered w/black electrical tape, but feel it is not necessary for the H3.

I will try to get a picture of the sunroof in the next day or two.
