35" BFG vs. 35" Nitto Terra A/T

No one seems to have the BFG 315/75/r16's in stock, and some say its being discontinued, so.....I looked at just about every A/T out there and thought the Nitto Terra Grappler A/T was the best looking tire available in 35" (second to BFG). What do you guys think? What others would you recommend? I want to stay away from Mud Terrain, although I really like the Toyo Country M/T's I've seen on some of the H3's.

I've always found that looking for tires is like hitting the lottery. They never have the size you want that fits your wheel size. So I'd say finding the right tread in a 16" wheel size is going to limit your options on tires.
I have these Coopers on another rig, and I havent had any trouble, but its not something I drive all the time. Mine are mounted on a 16X10" rim.

Those look pretty nice....thanks. These tires are for a friend. His fiance asked me to pick out tires for him as a gift, so its on me to make the decision and hope he likes it. I know he likes the BFGs, but that's all I know.

They do not show the 35" X 16" tire on their site. They do have it though! 35 X 12.50 X 16.

I am putting those on Thrusday or Friday.
4Wheel Parts carrys these.
you cannot use the stock rim though. they require a min. width of 8".

Thanks a lot! Perfect....very aggresive tread for an A/T. Much better than the Nitto's. I'm going to check em' out... I'm sure I'll find it on the site, but what do they run with shipping?

How are these onroad, how do they wear, etc.? I saw some on a heep the other day and liked the look of them.

What wheels are you getting?

Just my opinion; but I think 35s on a 16" rim will look like big ballons w/ a thumb tack in the middle and outta "style".

Get some 18s at least or 20s on some 35s and watch and see how many compliments you get.

bparker...I agree. These are for a friend's F350. His fiance asked me to help her surprise him. Guess its not clear in the title....sorry for the confusion. I'm getting 24" chrome spinners on low pros for the H3...jk.

that tire is available in 35's for
16",17", and 18" rims.

Thought I wouldn't respond, just read the thread, realize the poser comments about 20" rims with 35" tires...but...must...respond.

Look dudes, you obviously bought your hummer for poser mallcrawling. 20" rims with a 35" tire?

First, your wheel/tire weight is much higher than a 16" or 17" wheel. Metal weight is greater than rubber, so if you stick with a 35" tire, more wheel = more weight = more inertia = slower acceleration, worse gas mileage, less low-end torque.

Second, lower profile tires have higher sidewall strength = less sidewall compression = less tracetion (because less sidewall flex means less overall tire patch and that equals less traction).

So...you can choose butt-fugly 20" wheels with 35" tires that look like crap AND have zero offroadcapability.

Or...get a set of 17" wheels and have great looks with real functionality.

of course, that's my 2 cents, everyone has their opinions.

For the tye of off roading that I do, a 20" rim is not an option. Your rig looks good! But a 20" rim on 33" or 35" aired down to 16 or 18psi would = smashed rims in Moab. While I do like the look of the 20's, there isn't enough sidewall to flex up onto the sides of rocks or to ride a wall for that matter. Trail riding (like in your pic) on that type of terrain should not be an issue. Just be careful you don't smash those rims into the sides of any rocks if you ever air down your tires.

Have you aired down to 18 psi yet? I think the last two pics didn't work BTW.

No, I dont air down my tires. I have yet to need to air them down. I have been "behind" many on the trail that aired thier down and guess what; I went everywhere they went and in some cases had better traction than they did (as in I didnt spin out and needed a second approach with more speed).

Personally (this is just MY opinion) - I think airing down tires on "hwy capable" trucks is kinda silly. As in only when you are running 37s pizza cutters on a rail car doing some serious rock crawling - and only then do you need to air your tires down. I think guys that have "state hwy inspected" trucks are just doing it becaure "the big guys do it too".

Again, I never needed to with my 2 jeeps (which I had for 8 yrs), or any of my other offroad toys. All of them had great traction (EXCELPT SLIP ROCK) and I never needed to air them down to make myself feel like a big boy on the trail.

Again, this is just my opinion.

"Airing down is kinda silly?" there is a reason for that. not airing down = that's how tie rods break. every single person I go off roading wih airs their tires down.

Brent </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Pretty bad opinion at that. What other offroad toys are you talking about? Just about anything made for offroad run low pressure tires. There is a reason for that just like there is a reason to air down your "hwy capable" H3. Just because you were not smart enough to air down if you ever wheeled before, doesn't mean it's the best option. It all boils down to logic.

A tire aired down has a larger contact patch. It doesn't matter how much torque, HP, articulation or what you have, if you don't have a contact patch. The larger the better. More rubber touching means more traction. Pretty simple concept.

So the sarcastic comments about doing it because the "big guys do it too" is pretty asinine.

I had the mentioned procomps on my Jeep ZJ and they were great tires at first but became a bit noisy after about only 8k miles and had wear problems on all 4 tires. Yes, multiple alignments were done but they even cupped on the rears..

For the price there were ok tires - but i have read this is a common problem with them.

Also, one other tire I think you might want to look into is the Toyo line. They are quiet, tough and last long. A little more in price but have been worth it so far.
