European style, and manual transmissions
are particularly appropriate (needed)
with smaller engines, don't you all think?

Some people prefer having that power...but basically normal acceleration and not shifting is similar to holding the pedal hard enough to keep the gear to redline...(you just don't feel as guilty keeping it in gear http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

I ordered my Victory Red, Adventure w/ manual on June 4. My salesman was too affraid to tell me about the constraint, I found out through this web site and called him to confirm. I'm a little angry about the lack of communication. so when do you think I will see my H3. mid to end of August? (I hope). Thanks! J.P.'S-H3

I'm not sure when pre-existing orders will be built and shipped...but the time frame for new ones should be 6-8 weeks.

I have driven both, and I'll stick with the auto and let it do the downshifting. In addition, off roading is better with an auto, especially when going up hill or when in deep sand. But it is all personal opinion. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agree with fstop! I've done 25 years of offroading from the dry lakes of California, Nevada ghost towns, Moab, the Dillon Trail, the Ozarks, the plains of Del Rio, and a little bit around Langtry, TX. I find it much easier to creep and brake with an automatic. There's nothing worse than the smell of hot clutch dust after a serious hill climb. I've owned both in 4 X 4s and I think it's strictly a matter of what you like. If you live in a hilly area, you're going to be doing lots of shifting with your H3, but to a lot of drivers, that's part of the fun of driving and these vehicles ARE FUN TO DRIVE, but for now give me an automatic!

Just when I thought I'd get slammed....There are a bunch of old-school off-roaders who swear by the manual. To each his own. Before the H3 I only offroaded in the H1 and H2...you can probably guess my preference.

I lean toward manual transmissions because that's all I've ever owned. There's a yellow H3 I saw the other day that I have my eye on. I've been waiting a while to purchase because I did want to test-drive a manual first. Now that I have, I can't tell too much difference in acceleration, but since I'm comfortable with a five-speed, that's probably what I'll choose.
