I have had a unsual sound develope in my engine. In the morning, usually when it is a bit chilly, When i start my H2 a large whine developes. When i accelerate the whine gets louder and when i apply the breaks the sound developes a lower pitch and quiets down. It last for a little while, then when the engine warms up it stops. People have told me it probably is the tension pulley but i don't know. And the hummer mechanics haven't been much help because the sound stops before i get to the dealership. Can someone give me a suggestion on what i should do.

It's the clutch on the compressor. Have your techs look at/replace it.

arrange to leave it at the dealer for a couple of days or at least over night so they'll be able to here it first thing in the a.m or have it towed to them first thing in the morning.

I think Drty's suggestion is going in the right directions.

I had the same sound happen to me. I was out of town on a fishing trip when it started. I called the dealer and described the sound and he said it was probably the power steering pump. I listened with the hood open and thats what it appears to be. It doesnt groan like a pump that is going bad though. I have not taken it in yet, but I will post a followup when I do.

Well, the H2 isn't the first vehicle I've ever owned.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just about every SUV I've ever owned has done that, from Suburban to Range Rover to Tahoe, etc...

In short- been there & done that.
