Any problem wheelin on a tire that's been plugged? I picked up a nail this weekend and was curious if the tire can be trusted anymore. Thoughts?

Where did you pick it up?

Tread area - no problem. I'd trust it if it's patched properly.

Sidewall - less so.

You should be OK, Why don't you just swap out your spare and throw that other one on the back?

I'm not sure aboout airing down with the plug though.

It was between lugs straight in near the side wall. At first Disc Tire wasn't sure they could fix it because it was so close the the side, but they were able to.

I don't know jack about tire repair. So when I air down it won't compromise the patch?

That's what I was questioning too, the air down effects. Well I wanted to rotate all 5 and not worry about where the plug or patch was when I went off road.

Keep in mind, when airing down, your sidewalls flex quite a bit and if the patch is close, it may be an issue. The way I look at it, when I'm in Moab and on some of those ledges, I TAKE NO CHANCES!

Maybe you should take it back and see if Disc. Tire will pro-rate the tire and get you a new one. Do they know you air down and actually go off road? If they were worried they couldn't fix it, but decided to anyway, I'd be wondering if they wouldn't be willing to help you get a new one. I rotate my spare in, and I would worry all the time. (but I'm a worry wart anyway) I also don't like the idea of anything happening after you drive on it for a few thousand miles, air up after offroading for the hundreth time, and then have a problem at highway speed. One more idea. Contact the dealership (parts dept) and ask them if they have any takeoffs. Sometimes they're willing to make a deal if they've got a lot of them in the back. You're still running the All terrains?

On the way to Moab I had to have a tire repaired with a plug in Lexington, KY. It's still fine and it's the least of my worries.

Thanks for all the input. The tires are the ones that came with the truck so no chance of getting any pro-rate, Disc Tire fixed it for free. They were unsure before they pull the tire off the rim, but after looking at it they were confident that it would hold. I figured they would just try to sell me a new tire but they didn't so that makes me think it should be fine on road. Maybe I will contact the dealer and some local tire shops to see if they have a take off.

When I had mine repaired they could NOT get it off the rim. That's why they went with the plug. I like the plug better anyway.

ps - when mine start to wear out (and they do get pretty eaten up on the rocks around here) I think I'll go with 37" Nitto Grapplers. They look like they'd be tougher in this terrain, and if nothing else, they look VERY cool.
