MKW M18 wrapped in Toyo Open Country M/T's 35/12.50-18. Absolutely no rubbing with an inch to spare. I'll probably need to adjust the torsion bars up front if I want to do some serious wheeling but even after two H2's, that's never happened. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I can't stress enough getting the right off set on the wheels. To test out whether the tires would fit the tire store ordered a single 18 inch wheel with the "same" off set and back spacing as the MKW's. It rubbed with those wheels, but I have an inch to spare with these wheels.

Morale of the story? Even with the same specs wheels will vary depending on who makes them. Also, with the "other" wheel the tires stuck out of the fender about two inches. With the MKW's it sticks out only 0.5 inches.

Jason sells the correct wheels on this site. Go to the H3 Accessories section and then look at the wheels he offers. I am so glad that i went with the correct wheels. Otherwise, I'd have rubbing and the whole torsion or lift issue. Additionally, I'd be kicking up every darn pebble onto my rear fender.

Looks awesome! Any lift kit or is that with stock height?

Stock, but I want a lift BAAAAD! But I'm not comfortable with the whole warranty issue. It needs something, though. The rake (stink bug look) needs to go.

PLEASE?

Thanks Timgco,

Here's a closer look at the front to show that there us plenty of room inside the wheel well. The actual tire measurement is 34.50 inches. I used a tape measure (not very scientific).

The pics I have really do not do it justice so I'll wait for a sunny day and wash the rig and wheels before I post more.

I had my wife drive it around the cul-de-sac. the larger tires really do change the personality of the rig.

Thanks, I can't wait to see more! That set up looks perfect. Atfer seeing that, I decided not to lift the truck. I think I will just do that 2" set up on the front with the add of those extended keys. That'll give pleanty of room for off roading/ flexing those front tires. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've heard mixed reviews about torsion keys. But if they won't kill the front end I think that's the way to go.

Not sure if you noticed but the rear end of the Rancho 4" lift doesn't show a significant increase in the rear height. Most of the height seems to come only from the front. That being said, if you lift the front with the torsion keys, you'll get a similar look.

However, I'm just a bit concerned since the reviews are so mixed. Have you gone on the SUV World forum? There's tons of opinions and comment about those.

So hypothetical question... Since 35's fit without cranking the torsion bars and don't rub, could 37's fit if the torsion bars are cranked/fender triming?

My torsion bars have been cranked ~2 inches for the past 3000 miles. The ride is quite a bit harsher, but I actually like the higher stance and the rougher ride. I want to put some 37 bfg all-terrains (36.6 inch actual height) on. Kacyk, you said you have an extra inch, plus lets say 2 inches for the cranked torsion bars...Do you think they might fit?

Sorry, I did have the tire store turn the torsion bars twice around to give it a little lift up front. The gain was marginal. I leave on a business trip in the morning and won't be back till Friday. I'll post some pics Saturday. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Even with the 35's it's very tight, especially at full crank fo the steering wheel. I'll post some better pics to show how massive these 35's look on the H3. I am getting compliments left and right. Also, many people who are not familiar with Hummers are mistaking it for an H2. The bigger tires give the overall look of the truck tons of mass. I can't believe how much bigger the truck looks just because of the tires.

As for 37's, I don't recommend it without a lift. Also, there's the power issue. It takes a lot more effort out of the 5-Banger to get those massive tires rolling. I really think 35 is the limit.

Let me post some better pics and I think you'll be happy with the 35's. I imagine 35/12.50-18 Nitto Mud Grapplers to look sinister on this rig. The only draw back is the damn noise. But then, you might like that.

Here's a pic of the Nitto Mud Grappler tread that was on my first H2.

So, are you saying that the tire shop turned up the T Bars and you now ave one inch to spare?

OR

Did you turn them up since those pics and now have more room?

kacyk
10-04-2005, 01:27 AM
That pic is stock. I just had them crank it up today to see if the ride would be compromised. With two full turns the ride is stock and it raises it a little. Looks better, I think but rear gap (between the top of the tire and fender) is still 1.5" taller in the back. I hate that stink bug look!

10-04-2005, 02:51 AM
Hmmm...the power issue is something to consider, I'm just curious if they'll fit without major rubbing...

Sure look like they would be able to fit if the front end was evened up with the back (like on my truck)

Man, 37's with a 2 inch torsion lift is going to be hell on your front end. The best way to check would be to do what I did. Have a tire store get a wheel with the right back spacing and try a 37" MTR (or ?). Whis way, you'll know for sure. But, you're going to be flooring it all the time to get at speed.

Okay, another crappy pic but I guess when you compare it to the "before" pic (above), two turns of the torsion bar does make a visible difference.

That is the only aftermarket wheel/tire combo I have like so far. 20"s are just too big for an off road vehicle (well maybe not Bigfoot or a lifted H2).

Agreed, this is the perfect set of wheels for the H3 - nice job!

1. Kacyk, do remember how the road noise was with the stock tires compared to these?

2. Anyone know if there are 35s that fit over the stock rims?

kacyk
10-05-2005, 09:04 PM
Zing, road noise is the same as stock H# off-road wheels. The Toyo's are spectacular.

Here's the pics I promised. Finally washed it. I had the tire shop turn the torsion bars 3 times. Rides like stock with no weird noises. However, it now rubs (slightly) on the inner bar at full lock. But then, so did my stock tires on my H2.

The rims are on this site under H3 accessories. Sorry but I don't know the specs off hand. The tires measure 34.5 inches in height and 13" across.

PLEASE NOTE that after adjusting the torsion bars the tires do rub on the inside bar. I am actually looking at 33/12.50-18 Toyo M/T's to take care of this issue. Also, with the taller tires (35"s) acceleration does suffer.

nice meats, loud on road?

kacyk
10-14-2005, 07:29 PM
Not at all. No louder than the stock 33's or the stock BFG's on H2's. Not sure how toyo did it. I've had MTR's and Nitto Mud Grapplers and the "singing" drove me nuts. These are awesome.

Since his rims are 35's on 18's if you saw 37's on 20's with those same rims it would pretty much look the same. So I don't follow your logic.

Here's the link with pics and comments about my new 33's.

http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/2706067735/m/1271064341

If I could do it all over again I would have bought the stock chrome rims and just added these BFG's in a 295/75-16. It would be about 33.5 in height, no rubbing, wide, aggressive, quiet, and great for wheeling and all season traction.

Humm3r
10-23-2005, 01:21 AM
My Hummer dealer told me that the chrome rims couldn't fit the 33's. They're the same dimension as the adventure package rims, so I don't see why 33's wouldn't fit. Know anything about this?

I was told the same deal, but they told me it would void the rims chrome warranty. Sometimes I wonder if they even know what they are talking about or make it up as they go....
