I know there has been several posts on this topic and some confusion. I upgraded to the 6 disc stereo to replace may base radio. Installation took about five minutes. My dealer reprogramed the radio and it works fine, no problem with sound levels being cut in half. They charged me 19 dollars to do it. Lynch Hummer, Chesterfield, Mo.

Good Deal. I did the same thing last week and my dealer charged me $50.

I will do it as well. Earlier posts indicated that the volume level would be cut in half. I have the moonsoon system, I'm not sure if there is a 6 disc without moonsoon

I meant I bought the 6 disc stereo that was part of the moonsoon system via Ebay. In my H3 I have the base stereo. Anyway I will just try it.

Thanks,
Eric

H3Eric, you should be fine. I added the 6 disc premium radio from the standard radio and the volume is fine.

H3Eric, I was concerned too, but my H3 just had the base radio without the monsoon speakers, and the 6 disc works great, no volume loss, I think it is even louder with cd's over the am/fm.

I finally installed my 6 disc radio instead of the stock radio. It sounds great and it does not lock, so I don't have to go to the dealer.

This is very strange as all other posts here about the change talked about the unlocking of the radio by using a tech-2 at the dealership.

Stick your fingers in the two accessory ports at the bottom lower right and pull up and out. The panel will pop off.

disconnect the battery first before you do anything.

Na, just cram your fingers in the sockets. It'll be fine. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And move the shifter into 1st/2nd before you disconnect the battery. It will make things a lot easier.

Can anyone tell me if the 6-disc changer can play MP3 CD's also?

Thats a negative. There is an optional $700 single disk cd/mp3 deck you can order from the factory, but you would be better off spending the money on a good aftermarket deck.

Will changing out the factory stereo affect other functions, such as Onstar, door/warning chimes, etc....? That is the reason I never switched out my factory 6-disc changer in my Avalanche, because I would lose everything else.

It depends on what you're putting in it's place. If you are putting another OEM H3 radio, then no, it wont affect anything. If you installing an aftermarket radio, then you need to check with the installer to make sure that they install it properly so you don't lose those functions. i think there is an adapter or something that can be intsalled to integrate it into the radio.
