I'm trying to figure out what is the best navigation system for my H3. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the Eclipse (AVN 5435 or 5495) or the Pioneer (AVIC-N2 or D1).

Does anyone have any experience with these (or other units as good or better) or can you point me to some reviews of them?

Most important to me is how well the navigation system actually works. Of course I will have to replace my stock unit (6-disc changer) so the sound quality has to be good as well.

I'm looking at doing the very same thing when my H3 comes in. Does anyone have any comments on the better systems that can be fitted to a H3?

You have asked the exact question that I have been asking!!!!!!

so, what is the answer? It sounds like the Pioneer has some real problems - can't change nav system while driving, can't watch DVD while driving

It appears that the Eclipse 5495 is the answer. . .price really isn't an issue, I want the best system that gives me Nav and DVD capability.

What do you think?

I am using a TomTom 700.( http://tomtom.com/ )The brand appears to be fairly new to the U.S. It is a compact portable device that can be used in Europe aswell. It's easy to use. I have my Nav mounted on the dash next to the base of the A pillar, basically on top of the sideglass defogger vent. I tried mounting it above the rearview mirror but I find that I can keep my eyes on the road better with the A pillar location. Incidentally, it can also give you traffic reports and weather via a bluetooth phone. I haven't used this feature yet - I don't have a bluetooth phone yet. My friend has a TomTom 300 and is trading up to the 700.

the picture is great....i can play x box on one monitor and watch a movie on the other.... I will take a picture of the flipdown closed. whats nice is the ability to watch a dvd on the headunit while driving, with some "special" wiring you can do this...

So I have to ask Hummer 07, what's a setup like that cost (notincluding the x-box)?

I had the alpine IVA-D300 in my H2 but someone busted out my window and stole it, so i replaced it with the Eclipse AVN-5495 and absolutely love it. The navi is right on (i used it the other day to get around a major traffic jam) and it also has a higher output which makes for better sound. I wouldnt put anything else in my H2 after having this. Hope this helps.

I would HIGHLY recommend Eclipse over anything else. They are by far the best on the market.

I have had the AVIC-N1 and I now have the N2. It is by far the best navigation on the market. The other great part about the N2 is that it is all intergrated into one unit! Unlike the Alpine and others you have to buy the navigation inaddition to the screen. I will post some pics of my N2 that is being installed next week. Also, Pioneer has a sweet ipod controller for the N2 as well. I will have all this in next week with an update!

Don't forget the the CD-BC! option allows voice prompting/response and a cool steering wheel remote.

with those other systems can you watch a dvd while driving?

the systems that use a ground wire to disable the dvd screen when the parking brake isnt engaged can easily enough be taken care of. just ground the wire to something else besides the parking brake.
but lately they have become more ingenious...some of the nav systems use gps to sense when ur vehicle is in motion and it turns off many of the nav functions till u come to a stop. and if the nav is a one unit dvd/nav, it will disable the dvd too.
im not sure if that set up can be juried. ill find out and post, cause im interested in the eclipse unit myself.
