If so, how easy/difficult was it getting those lugs off using the stock emergency kit?

It is so easy, I just hold my phone up to my mouth and say "Call triple A" http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sorry, it was just to easy to pass up and I don't have an answer for you.

Yeah, I'll probably end up calling AAA too!! I guess it's just the Boy Scout in me - I want to be prepared and able to handle it myself.

I had to change one, rear passenger side. let me put it this way, it took me more time to get the gear out of the rear door and open all the plastic and rubber covers than the time it took me to get the lugs off, REAL EASY, then it took me DOUBLE the time to put every damn thing back in place

I have had to change two tires, one in the front and one in the rear. Both times due to them being slashed here in lovely Baltimore. The hardest part is figurin out how to put the jack back together. Jacking it up & down was very easy both times! The jack goes together very nicely. I would say better then the one on my Ford and Toyota.

Just because I already have AAA but don't have my H3 yet http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Once I get the H3, then OnStar it is.

It's not that hard, matter of fact, first week I had a flat tire, called AAA, waited 10 minutes and they change the tire in 5......simple - he he

Yeah. Still getting used to the convenience of having OnStar. Before this I had a 94 Volvo 850 Wagon. No OnStar there. Hey, how long does it take to pump the H3 tire with the 12 volt? Quicker than the roadside assistance I'm sure, but just curious.

How heavy or hard is it to lift the tire up on the lugs?

SledgeHummer
10-12-2005, 05:34 AM
Yeah, I have to admit, tire's a bit heavy, maybe not for Gov. Shwarzenegger, but a bit for me, a friend had to help me http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

So sledge. I am a wimp and can lift with my legs but I don't have any upper body strength. I weigh about 115. I don't want to take a tire off and not be able to put the damn thing on the lugs. How much do you weigh? If you are stronger then me and had a friend help you I will wait for OnStar.

Hey H3,

fourfourto mentioned it earlier, but plugs and air pump might be another option.

The trick I've always used for tire changing is to only jack the car/truck up just enough that the studs are lose in the wheel. Then your not lifting the new tire, just locating it on the studs.

another way when in a bad spot is fix a flat in a can if you can work a hairspray can you can use fix a flat. it sometimes hard to plug tire if you havent done it before. i would get 2 cans being that H3 tires are big than following day have tire fixed.

I read an earlier thread that cautioned against using cans b/c it screws up the tire pressure sensor.

i didnt think about that does anyone know if it will screw up sensors ?. i usually only would use it in a emergency situation.i rather plug it right and forget about it.make sure you buy quality t handle with ribbon type plugs dont use those plastic ones or striaght handle plug installers/reamers(speaking of reamers who would like to ream hihummer ?) the t handle gives you leverage. its all about the leverage

No doubt HiHummer is a knockout!

But I'll be heading to West Palm Beach for a long weekend to see my girlfriend. We met about 4 yrs ago. She's 15 yrs younger than me and hotter than a snakes @ss in a wagon rut! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My TPM sensor is already indicating that I'm severely over inflated. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As for the HIHUMMER comment, that wasn't very nice, she's better than that and doesn't deserve to be talked about like a piece of meat, you pig. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Heh, H3, I am 85 Kilograms, not sure how much that is in pounds http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'm not athletic, but I do ok http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tire sensors, didnt have a problem when changing the tire, but I had a problem after I switched from 265 to 285s BFGoodrich. the sensors light on the dash was always, although I inflated the 285s to 35 PSI. then when I took the H3 for its first service, they somehow fixed it and it been off since then.

That's the nicest thing about a portable 12v air compressor for airing your tires up after offroading -- an air wrench. This makes changing tires a snap and I used it many times on my old Wrangler. De Vilbis made a nice air wrench that would work with these units 15 years ago, and changing a tire was a snap. I've been trying to find a similar unit online this morning. I think the max torque setting was about 220 ft lbs using a Crafstman 12v portable compressor.

part of an emergency kit should also include a large pair of pliers to pull a large nail out of a tire.
as for the sensor, yes, fix-a-flat will destroy them as others here have said. however, if out in the middle of nowhere, and it is a true emergency, use it. a new sensor is only about $50-75.00. i carry a truck size can of fix-a-flat, as well as plugs, pliers, and a compressor.

Just got back from West Palm. 80's and sunny today. Sure beats the weather here in CT. Reading about the compressor. Can anyone recommed a good compressor w/air wrench?

Thanks.
