Aftermarket radio harness

Is using a harness that relocates the stock head unit the best to use? I was reading on the net that guys are having trouble with the PAC and others that have their own module. I want to keep my warning buzzers and onstar features with an aftermarket system but i know if i do the relocation the onstar won't work. Just bough a **** load of alpine goodies and want to do this right.
