I had my H3 in for service today and I asked my service adviser if he could check and see if my HUMMER had the side curtain air bags as my rear roof pillars have the air bag symbol on them but I did not pay for that option or was it on the window sticker invoice... He told me that mine had the side curtains and that they where standard equipment on all H3's ... wtf ??? I thought that I saw them listed as like a $300.00 option on the window stickers of other H3's I had looked at. and they are showing them as an option on the HUMMER web site... Anyway I was just wondering if I got another freebie or what...

That's one reason why I had to order mine. Seems if one on the lot had the Nav radio there were no side curtain air bags. Or the Lux's that had the side curtain air bags there was no Nav radio. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif I wanted both, so had to order it.

It's an option. I have the base package and it's listed on the sticker as an option.

Yup, it costs more $$$. But it's sure worth it if you get into an accident.

Just for clarification, they are NOT side curtain airbags. They are roof rail airbags, meaning they will deploy in the event of a rollover. They will not deploy in a side impact collision.

That last sentence could NOT BE MORE INCORRECT.
The roof rail air bags WILL DEPLOY in a moderate to severe side impact, as well during a rollover.
Read the owner's manual:
Your vehicle may or may not have a roof-mounted side impact airbag and rollover sensor. See Airbag System on page 1-49. These “rollover capable” airbags are intended to inflate in moderate to severe side crashes or during a rollover. A roof-mounted side impact airbag will inflate if the crash severity is above the system’s designed “threshold level.” The threshold level can vary with specific vehicle design. Roof-mounted side impact airbags are not intended to inflate in frontal or near-frontal impacts, or rear impacts.

In addition, to the rollover sensor (located under the console) there are TWO side impact sensor, one toward the rear of each front door.
The rollover sensor senses a rollover and inflates the bags, the side impact sensor detect an impact to the side of the vehicle and inflates the roof rail bags.
Side collisions or roll overs may not cause the SDM to deploy the front bags, a frontal collision may not cause the SDM to deploy the side bags.

In answer to your question, they are an option, and if you were not charged, I would check to make sure, just for your piece of mind.
A very easy way for you to verify, is to remove the front A-pillar trim molding.
Remove the little screw cover halfway down on the molding, remove the screw, grab the molding and pull it is held in place with a few retainers.
If you have roof rail curtains, you will see what looks like canvas strap, coming from inside the headliner and anchored to the pillar with a screw. About four or six inches of this strap will come down the A-pillar.
There are no electrical connectors for the bags under the pillar molding, The inflater module and the wiring is located at the rear of the bags.
If you have the bags, you did get something for free, if you don't, it appears they may have installed the incorrect trip molding at the plant, and for legal reasons, the dealership should change these moldings to the correct moldings.
In addition, I would inform the service people to understand the car they are working on, and if they are not sure, to check (at least to cover their a**es in case of an accident), and the sales people to understand what they are selling.

The dealer can check via the Tech 2 to see how the SDM is programmed...with or without side roof rail bags.

I stand corrected, that was the way it was explained to me a while back.

Thanks f5fstop .. Just to make sure I will pull the pillar trim molding and check for those straps, my service tech said he checked using my vin # and found out mine had them.. But I still find it hard to believe that they would miss that on the invoice and I was thinking the same thing you said about them installing the wrong trim pieces with the air bag marking.

I was thinking they just went on what the person said about all H3s having side air bags. Usually, the VIN information is correct.
But the trim molding will confirm. If you want your build information, send the last eight digits of your VIN via PM, and I'll run your build sheet.
