Backed into garage door.

Ok, so it was inevitable. I've got only about an inch of clearance getting into the garage. Unfortunately, without me knowing, the garage was stopped just before it was fully open, and I backed into it. Fortunately, the only real damage is a nice scratch on the top of the lift gate, and two or three good scratches right up and over the rear brake light. I'm definately glad they put that black plastic trim around the top of the vehicle http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Anybody know a good way to remove the scratches from the rear brake light plastic? I'm thinking about using some sand paper 600-2000 grit to smooth it down, and maybe some clear epoxy or something to fill it in. Anybody got any experience or any ideas?

Ha! You should see the pic of Adam's (Or Alec's) garage door contact. I don't have it on this computer, but he took the door DOWN. Good thing you didn't have more damage and I wish I knew how to get the scratches out. Anyway, look for his pic. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I haven't seen his pics yet. I'll keep my eye out. I was surprised there was no damage to the garage door. Had to reset the tension, that's about it. I've destroyed two garage doors already - both times when it was extemely cold and the opener didn't pull the door all the way up - insurance comes in handy sometimes. Absolutely no damage to the H2 either time - pushed the cross bar back a quarter inch though.

I'll be removing the grab handle from the garage door this weekend, so hopefully it won't scratch anything again...
