Interstate traveling

How many of you have taken your H3 on the interstate and into cities like Houston? My husband and I drove 4 hours to Houston and fought the wind to stay on the road the whole way there. Have any of you had this problem?

Yes, but that is true with any Hi profile vehicle.

Yea, I H3 doesn't feel much different than other similar sized SUV's in the wind. They all get blow around.

We had high winds here today in Northern Maine. My H3 handled a lot better in the cross winds than my Bravada did.

No suprise with the older Bravada vs. H3. Look at the differences in width vs. height, track, tire width, etc. The earlier Bravada was pretty deadly from a stability standpoint.

In Wyoming the wind never stops and the H3 does as well, if not a little better than my old Explorer did.

I have thousands of miles on the Interstate in my H3 with one 6,300 mile roundtrip long driving vacations and compared to other high profile vehicles I have owned it is good and tracks well. Any SUV, van, or non tear dropped shaped vehicle is going to buck around in the wind. Overall, I would rate the H3 slightly better than average compared to my old Explorer, Jeep, F250, Wrangler, RV and those kind of vehicles. But yes, it does respond more to the wind than a car. If you think that's bad, try a big jet like the old 707 in a strong crosswind at 110knots - they act just like a weather vane and take all kinds of rudder and want to wander all over the place - in spite of their 250,000 pound weight. Much more of a handful than an SUV.

I've noticed that it gets pushed around a little bit but not much more than the other SUV's that I've had (Tahoe,Navigator).

It does a lot better than a Jeep Wrangler, where you had to slow done in high winds.

Its been very windy in NJ this last week, I noticed some movement but the weight seems to keep it tracking pretty good. My Jetta would be worse, in high winds over 25mph.

My 1st SUV and I just did Miami to Orlando and back (guess 300 miles each way) and other them some heavy traffic at each end my 70 mph to 80 mph trip was most pleasent. Granted Florida is not known as the WINDY State but at 80 mph I am impressed with my H-3

The recent C+D artical said that the H-3 had issues with the H-3 on the highway. I don't find that at all. Runs at 80mph all day as good as a Mercedes.

drove from Seattle to Northern VA with a Gobi Rack completely loaded down. IN fact it leveled out quite nicely with about 1000 extra lbs back there. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Avgd around 18 mpg (kept at 65 to 70)... mine ran awesome. Through the Cascades and the hills in VA, I was dropping it inth 3rd going up the passes, but beyond that ran like a swiss watch.

I would agree 100%! I've been from the Midwest to the Yukon and back and out to Dillon, CO and back, and to New Orleans and back, and really love the H3 on the highway. This machine is an outstanding highway cruiser and I find that surprising and something I didn't expect, since offroad and good on the highway rarely go together. I've found it to be as stable as a rock in the 80s and a suspension that inspires confidence on winding highways in the mountains.
It's funny, when I first got it, I noticed it downshift in the mountains a lot, and now I don't even notice it at all.

Sorry been out of town. Thanks for all the replies to this topic. Our H3 kept kicking out of overdrive on the overpasses. Like it was straining to go 70-75 in the wind.

Oh yeah, as most of you know South Louisiana and South Texas do not have hills......so I don't understand. I guess I am was spoiled with the V8 our F150 Super Crew had.
