Im getting a slight binding or grinding of front brakes once in a while mostly during or after rain going slow down a small incline(on the road)just as its comming to a stop..
I thought it might be rust on rotor from sitting overnight after rain.
Im changing my oil this weekend on my brothers lift Ill inspect them then.

You can kinda inspect your rotors by looking thur the wheels and checking for grooves or wear on the rotor. If it looks smooth its probably just rust or possible dirt. Did you do some off roading ? If it continues you might want to have them checked. Not much help, just a couple ideas, See ya bro,,,

My brakes made some seriously freaky noises going down Hells Gate in Moab. Very much like you just described. I think it's normal for the type of pad. But jeez, it was horrendous!

You might have a little oil soaked into the pads or caliper seepage.

Check for wear on the pads

check rotor condition

check mounting hardware (is it tight?)

let us know what you find.

I havent did any off roading for a few weeks(and it was light),rotors look good from what I can see in driveway.I did notice after it rained the next day rotors are rusty. Its very light grinding(intermitant) just before it come to a stop the wife was worryed so Ill pull the wheels off on the lift and take a look.If it continues Ill bring it to the dealer.

Not unless you consider padding trouble.;)

"Grinding" may be a problem, but when they're wet and they make a low sound (much like moving a large piece of furnture with rubber stoppers underneath) when coming to a stop, that sounds normal for this system...

Usually its rained within 24 hours of doing it.It only did it to me once it was very slight. It did it to wife several times ,figured couldnt hurt to take a look.I dont want anything to happen to her:rolleyes: ;) 12,000 miles and counting:D

With the 442 if I hit the brakes hard over 50mph I go slideways:eek:

I looked at the brakes on the lift all looks good but it still makes a noise on slow brake .Mostly downhill in rain ?.Not planing on going to the dealer untill roof rails are in unless it gets worse.

I put in mobil one today with a fram tuff gaurd filter, spayed up the bottom a bit with low gloss black(drive shafts were rusty umung other things. There are no lub spots for front end or shafts. No leaks(there was some oil on the crossmember and skid plates from the dealer oil change from filter removel they didnt clean it up nice:mad: )Im doing my own oil changes from now on.(very easy:D )I spayed white grease on all hinges and pivit points, emerency brake , cable linkage ect(The dealer said they did it every change(3 changes) they never did anything:mad: )

From a 1996 Chrysler bulletin (http://www.dodgeram.info/tsb/1996/05-09-96.htm) :
Groan Noise On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, a slight groan may be heard when coming to an abrupt stop or when allowing the vehicle to creep forward slowly with the brakes slightly applied.

What you are probably experiencing is called stick-slip. It is a low frequency vibration cause by the slip between the rotor and the friction material; more pronounced with a wet friction material (pads) when the brakes are lightly applied and the vehicle is rolling slowly.

I notice it when I have the radio turned down and the brakes are wet, usually from driving through some deep puddles. It tends to go away when the pads burn off the moisture; however, if I listen very carefully it will still be there, but not as pronounced.

This is probably what you have, and there is really no fix for it. It does not affect the stopping of the brakes (unless the pads are saturated).

But, not a bad idea to let the dealer check it out to make sure the pads are ok. They are bonded to the pad plate, and one may have lost adherence to the plate, very unlikely, but still possible.

Gotta get to the next level man. I have noticed some slapback on a slowdown or when re-acceleration from a slow down. Will wait and see if this is going to be a problem. Hate the brake dust comming off already. will go with better pads on the replace.

Just came back from the dealer.

Defective rear pads, wearing improperly, resurface rear rotors and replace rear pads.Under warranty 12,849 miles
They did not elaborate further
No noises Yey ! :D
I would have prefered new rotors but I beleve the just cleaned them up .I didnt see any groves or gouges when I looked at them last week.

They have no new info on the roof rails

My sqeaking and grinding happens for a few minutes right after the car wash.
