Can the H3 run on E85? I know the colorado with same engine is listed as a flex fuel vehicle. A gas station near my house is going to start to sell the stuff. My explorer can run on it dono if the H3 can.
Ok, this has become a strange issue for me. I don't know about the H3 running on E85, but at the Chevy dealer I just went to, there were many new Tahoes, Yukons, and Escalades that said, on the the delivery sticker, may use up to E85 blends. I told the salesman he was full of sht until I read it myself, and found it in the product manual. Only the 5.3L and Denalis would do it with the 6.2L I think it was. The 4.8L engine wouldn't run on E85. So this question will have to go back to FStop. If you put E85 in your H3 and it didn't specifically say so somewhere, you will probably void your warranty rights if something goes arwy.

My take is no. that would be a huge selling point if it did.
My conundrum is: Why are these new GM's running on E85, without flex fuel badging and yellow fuel caps, and why isn't it being advertised?

For one thing, there are so few E85 pumps in the USA I believe I can even count that high. In the state of MI alone, there are only SIX.
In answer to the original question....NO, and I mean NO. Engine is not designed for E85.
Meijer stores in MI might start installing E85 pumps, and just read Walmarts is also considering the installation of E85 pumps. Until there is a infrastructure for E85 vehicles, it is not worth it for GM to make many engines capable of using E85.

F Stop, being a non engineer type, what modifications mst be complete to have a engine run on E85? Why the difference in burning?

No , no, and NO.
The H3 engine can not run on E85.
My local dealer says they are fixing a lot of Hummers that owners put in E85 at the OWNER's expense - damage is not covered by warranty.
So again, do NOT put E85 into an H3's tank.

Not sure of all the changes, but I know the head has to have a higher rockwell for hardening due to the higher temp burning of E85, or any ethanol mixture above 15 percent. Seals, gaskets are unique, and injectors are different; how, not sure.
I have never gotten involved with E85, so do not know all the requirements.

in SD E85 is at every gas station, it is a rural economy here and is heavily subsidized by the state. E85 is 50 cents a gallon cheaper and will disable a vehicle that is not specifically designed to handle the higher temps or leaner oxygen mixture. The H3 will malfunction in less than a tank if you use it in there. PLUS the E85 mixture gets 25% less mpg then gas, so the cost savings in marginal if it could be used.
I was pissed to know the morons at the Chevy dealer in Silverthorne were like "Yeah, these can take E85." I mean, some said it on the delivery sticker, and it was in the product brochure, but this was only SOME. He made it sound like all. They also tried to get a tranny flush done at 30K on my H2, which I was hesitant about. They wanted to change the diff fluid too. I wasn't about to let them touch anything but the oil. This was after some Vibe came rolling out of the garage smoking from everywhere... They also thought all new GMT900's used AFM, that they had 4-spd, and that the new Escalade was made on the East Coast somewhere. TEXAS should have been the instant answer it's on the door!!! Morons...
