View Full Version : Paragon around 6-20
Someone very special will be heading to the east coast in a couple weeks and would like to meet some of you. SHE will be heading east from the HUMMER event at South Bend, then to Hershey/ParagonAP, then south to a few more destinations including Virginia Beach :D before going home.
It could be very short and we're not sure on the exact date of arrival at Paragon, but I'm pretty close.
Anyone interested?:D

Anyone along that route she'd like to get up with.

I used to live 8 miles away from Hershey - I hated it up there.
Made it as far as Cheyenne, WY today. What a trip! I didn't realize that most of WY, at least on I-80 is above 6000 feet. Rolling green hills and thousands of Antelope.:)

I made it from Short Pump to Paragon in almost 10hours (I-95)thanks to the D.C. Traffic(Almost 2hrs worth of stop & Go crap!).
Made it home in almost 8 hours bypassing D.C.(I-81)on the way home!:o

Rocks, you can't miss it. It's just south of DC on your way to us. That's where 395, 495 and 95 meet. DO NOT get there during rush hour. Too much traffic and construction. Just wake up and leave Paragon in the morning, before 10am.
Still stopping in DC?
BTW, don't get here during rush hour either. The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel can get many miles long ugly.....

Here's pic of some of the new military vehicles AM General is coming out with. I have the specs on them too if anyone is interested.
This is cool. It's a recon machine. (I was told).
Here's the spec sheet for the above:
The doors weigh around 200 pounds. Bullet proof glass.
Here's the interior of the one above. The big box in the middle is a big air conditioning unit. Apparently the guys over in the Middle East said they needed somthing really freakin COLD!
One more:
If you look closely there is a sling hanging from the roof. This is where they sit when they're shooting out of the turret on top.
When can I get a Recon machine?:D

I have been talking to a Hummer accessory vendor that was releasing a new winch bumper for the H3 there. Did you see anything on it? I like the look of it but afraid it will effect the approach angle.
I saw an H3 with a winch mounted under the license plate, but it was in my rear view mirror and I couldn't get a pic. It had a Gobi rack too. Those look cool on an H3.
This was one of the Real Wheels H3's; the offroad version.
Oldhiker was kind enough to find a third truck to go with us into Paragon AP, so today I'm packing up and headed across Ohio thru Toledo and Columbus. Does anyone know if there is anything in particular I should not miss?:)

Arrived late yesterday afternoon back home. Had a great time. I did the woods tours on Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday was the plant tours. I tried to get them to let me run the H1 graduate courses, but it was a no go. Same with the rock crawling obstacles.
The woods rides ware basically for people with limited or no off-road experience. But it allowed the driver to really see what the truck could do. Stock tires become slicks and have about as much traction in the mud. This made the rides very slow. I have the MT/R's that make small work of the mud.
I was on a max lean angle and it was funny to see the washer fluid gushing out of the drivers nozzle when I was at full lean. They also did a maximum climb and descent angle obstacle.
I'd show all my pictures, but my camera disappeared!
Getting ready to head out to Paragon. Lots of mud is predicted.
I'd show all my pictures, but my camera disappeared! The wife probably left it on a rock somewhere like another wife once did.
Getting ready to head out to Paragon. Lots of mud is predicted. Be careful driving out there. It's raining like crazy!Rocks, Mapquest has changed it's "fastest" route to our house from Paragon. It has you coming down the Eastern Shore of MD and VA and across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. It's a nice easy drive and there's lot's of scenery. No NoVA "Mixing Bowl", unless you go to DC. (You should really stop there if you can)
...
The woods rides were basically for people with limited or no off-road experience. But it allowed the driver to really see what the truck could do.
That's for sure. Anyone with half a brain would have realized that the trails there we made by HUMMERs for HUMMERs to use and, more importantly, they had a schedule to keep and a lot of people to move through. So they weren't going to make it too difficult. I was a complete wheeling noob, and while I had some anxious moments the first times I banged down on the frame and UCP, by the end of the day (starting with the infield and doing the 1, 2, and 3 trails), I was really comfortable doing it and just wanted more.
Anyone who did it and now thinks they are a wheeling genius is delusional.
Stock tires become slicks and have about as much traction in the mud. This made the rides very slow. I have the MT/R's that make small work of the mud.
I was still pretty impressed with my stock BFGs. I saw a lot of people in H1s 2's and 3's having trouble by simply not being agressive enough on the slippery stuff to keep the tires cleaned out. I got stuck once, but it was stupid pilot error. I got hung up on a log on a tight turn while too much attention to the trucks ahead of me and too little to my surroundings.
I was on a max lean angle and it was funny to see the washer fluid gushing out of the drivers nozzle when I was at full lean.
Ditto. Apparently we were the only ones with full wiper fluid b/c no one else I talked to noticed that.
Here is part of a shot of the winch bumper that they sent me. I stopped by the Amstar (http://www.amstarfun.com/) booth for a while. They had an H3 with this style of bumper on it. I didn't talk with them about it as I have an H2 and wasn't thinking much about the 3er's, nor did I take pictures, sorry.
I did however talk for a while with Jim Armour (Jr...not his daddy whose pres/ceo of AMG) from MileMarker (http://www.milemarker.com/). He mentioned an H2 bumper they were doing. He told me it'll be available through Amstar shortly and that it was going to be a lot like the Warn, though I'm not really sure how it'll differ. He also said they had a version of it that would accomodate the 12K hyrdaulic winch. Neither he nor Amstar guy had the prototype at the homecoming though. They both said it'd be available in the next month or two though. We'll see.
The Amstar guy said that marketing really jumped the gun this winter and that engineering and productions been playing catchup on the H2 and 3 products and we'll start seeing more of their stuff later this summer as they work out kinks with their dealer relationships.

The one I posted the pic of was by another manufacturer but the AmStar stuff is pretty cool if they ever get it to market. The big problem with them is they will be selling through the dealerships only which means way over priced
