Switched 12 volt source for DVD system/wiring diagram

I recently installed a DVD entertainment system (headrest video displays), and cannot seem to find a switched 12 volt source. Seems that all of the 12 volt sources stay on when the vehicle is turned off, which would be a big problem if my Hummer is turned off, and one of the kids forgets to shut off the DVD or video screens. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 2003 Hummer H2? I can only seem to find the hardcopy service manuals on-line, for $100.00.

Are you sure they're on all the time, and not on for the 10 minutes of Retained Accessory Power?

Yes, I checked that, and they are on all of the time.

May I suggest you install a relay…which would allow you draw power direct from battery. The relay needs to be wired to activate on /off with the ignition, thus allows DVD monitor headrest to draw it power directly from the battery.

Any good stereo shop can perform this for you.

One note… The GM wiring system is not diagramed or gauged to handle the draw of power that a DVD headrest monitors require. Please do not draw direct power source off the ignition either, it will lead to other complications. You should only draw to switch-able relays and draw direct power off the battery.

The cigarette lighter/aux. socket at the back of the console is fused high enough from the factory to carry the cd/dvd player and monitors with no problem. But, it does remain 'hot' all of the time, so should be switched or use a relay as suggested.

On the drivers side up under the dash there is a light brown wire (12 gauge). This wire is switched. On my H2 it was up there pretty high so I had to take apart the dash (3 bolts) around the fuse box. A hot wire "red 12 guage" is also needed and it is also in this area. I hope this helps.

There is an Aux fuse box under the drivers side dash, you can find constant and switched power for your accessories there.

I taped into a 10 amp fuse with a fuse tap, located at the main fuse panel on left side of dash, the fuse is "TBC IGN" is only hot when the ignition is on, im running 2 video screens, a dvd, and a powered antenna off it.
