I just got my H3 back 2 weeks ago tomorrow after it had been at the dealer service dept. for 11 days. (Rotor resurfaced and pad replacement) A week prior to that, it was in for 7 days for cylinder head/valve replacement .. prior to that .... the list goes on. Anyways, I was on the way home tonight, stopped at a light and heard THAT rotor sound again as I was coming to a stop. AGHHHH! We're leaving on a trip this weekend WITH the H3. Of course, I'm not going to drive it like this. I left a message for the service manager tonight letting him know. I need a loaner and it better not be a sedan!;) I also realized this afternoon that my roof rail is cracked. Buuuuut, I still love my H3!

Mines still good. they did pads in rear and resurfaced rotor.:D

I dont know whats going on with your dealer but mine had me out of there in 2 hours for that repair.
I know they changed the pads. Maybee your dealer used the same pads?

Im leaving for a road trip to North Crackalaky then to Ga this afternoon.

Hope allm works well with the dealer otherwise on your trip stop by another dealer if you still have problems.

WTF

Why can't the mechanic do a brake job right?

Can you tell if it the pads and rotors or the e-brake?? Is the rotor scratched??

I am not sure if the rear e-brake system uses the disc brakes or a small drum brake??

explorers and jeeps use this system

They figured mine out quick ,no problems.
I dont understand why hmmm3 is having problems:confused:

H3 uses the scrub type for the e brake ,its seperate.

 I'm taking it to the dealer service dept within the hour. They had a sedan loaner for me. I told them no, I'm going on Nevada and need an SUV. They found me a Jeep (Grand Cherokee, I think). They've always given me an Escalade .. I think they should have tried harder this time since the H3 is going back in again. Anyways, the reason they had it 11 days the last time was because they didn't believe me when I told them it was a rotor/pad problem. After having a similar problem with our Jeep Grand Cherokee when it was new .. and with fourfourto's experience .. I just knew. At first, he called and told me it was the usual noise with these trucks .. not a problem. He said it 'just needed lubing'. I picked it up and returned it same day. Service Mgr heard it. They tried three sets of new pads .. each one made the sound worse. They called in two Hummer specialists. They told them to resurface the rotor and put on some extra heavy duty pads. This is why it took 11 days. The service dept told me they HAD to go step by step .. they couldn't go straight to the rotors. When the outsourced survey person for the dealer called me the other night, I told her I would have gotten it back in a day IF they had listened to me and AT LEAST checked for that problem first. It turned out I was right in the end .. the Service Mgr apologized. Just yesterday I received my Hummer survey for this past repair. I'm holding onto it. The problem is back. Leaving on my trip without my Hummer and will be gone the week.

ROFLMAO .... thanks for the comic relief!! Just got back from the dealer. Took the 'other' service mgr on a test drive. He heard it and twisted. Asked me what I thought it was, just out of curiosity. I told him, "Either the drive shaft or rear axle, especially with the additional intermittent whine I hear thrown in." He nodded his head and said, "Yep, that's what I'm thinking exactly." We went back to talk to the first service mgr .. he insisted it has to be the rotor/pads since the problem went away for 12 days after the rotor work. The service manager today said, no, he's pretty sure it's the rear axle or drive shaft. Then, in the same breath, he said, "Maybe it's the calipers hitting the drum brakes." I said, "OG, what???? This has disc brakes not drums!" I had hoped he was only joking, but he wasn't. They'll have it for the week. In the meanwhile, if the replacement parts (two vent boxes plus strip along the wipers) don't come in this week .. I'll have to bring the H3 back in AGAIN after I pick it up next Monday. That's when they'll repaint the hood and boxes.
BTW, they said they had a Jeep for me. When I got there, they actually had a Durango  . Turned it down and got a Cadi SRX instead. Hoping they'll get an Escalade in today or tomorrow morning.
ALSO ... when I told him I need my jack replaced due to recall he said not all will be replaced. They have to look at it. I told him I received a letter and mine was pre-August build. He said it didn't matter .. not all are replaced. Go figure. They also have to order my left roof rail.:(
So, do you think I'll have are built rig once all is said and done? Who else has everything getting replaced?

Isn't there another dealer you can visit? This is a horror story.

Then, in the same breath, he said, "Maybe it's the calipers hitting the drum brakes

He was probubly refering to the parking brake. It is a drum style brake shoe located behind and inside the rotor. It is part of the rotor.

They'll have it for the week.

That's a long time for a simple brake job. Yes that's what you are getting. Even if they are waiting for parts. Unless the parts are comming by mule train.

X2 ... this is total BULL SH*T, I have some real horror stories from past dealings with other service departments (Toyota and GMC) but I almost look forward to taking my H3 in to my dealer for service ... I had it in Friday (16,000miles) for the state inspection an oil change and tire rotation, I have a crack in the windshield and was thinking that it would need replacement before passing the inspection but they said it was not necessary, they didn't try to sell me the 15,000 mile service and also told me my tires really didn't need rotating this go around, they also did the recall service (tire jack and rear water pump) and I was out the door for less than $50.00 :D ... Also while I was there waiting one of the service employees came over asked if I would like some coffee or something and gave me and my daughter a really nice HUMMER hat, They sell these same hats in there store for $20.00 each !! Then another came over and brought a photo album of past HUMMER "events" for me to look at while we waited, The service people there are extremely professional and over the top "NICE" ... there total goal is to make your service experience as pleasant as possible ..

I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow and dropped the H3 Friday morning. He said a mechanic could first check it Monday morning and take it from there. If parts for the rear need to be ordered, they will be on Monday. Since it's a recurring problem he said he wants to make sure they find the real problem. (?) He thinks the whine and rear sound are part of the same problem. When the one Serv. Mgr was talking about drum brakes, he wasn't talking about the e- brake. When I and the other Serv. Mgr told him they are discs, he said, "Oh." I kid you not. The jack recall and the roof rail is another issue .. he said they have to be ordered since he didn't think they had received either yet. Annnd, the last time the H3 was in, one of the mechanics nicked the door jam, so they have to need to touch that up. After this stuff, IF the hood boxes and windshield strip finally come in (ordered 2 weeks ago), they will need the H3 for an additional few days to paint the boxes/strip and whole hood due to the Weather Guard problem upn delivery (cloudiness under the clear coat). Yes, it's a nightmare. I'm trying to be nice to them. If after this go around I still have problems, I'll contact Hummer and fill out the survey I just received accordingly. I'm giving them a chance. But, I refuse to spend every week there. The other dealers are too far for convenience. This is a very large, reputable dealer .. I think they are just not into the Hummer product yet. They had been only Cadillacs for a long time. I'll let you know how things turn out. Thanks for your input. Still loving my H3 .. when I have it.
