Had it in for an oil change today and brought it up. Their going to redo the leather. Can't beat a warranty.

I left my truck there to get the leather work done (they send it off) but I never took any pic's of what it looked like before. Pretty much it was just really bad wear lines with some of the area's starting to crack. The dealer said that should of never happened. Interesting to note that every other seat looks like new.

I had the same problem with mine...they replaced it under warranty...unfortunately, my seat now looks better than the others...almost a different type of leather....not as "shiny"

That sucks. Is it Wheat?
Humm, I think I'll get agrv8r and the Hall team to look at my driver's seat. It's the only thing that bothers me about the whole truck. It's wrinkled to heck. :(

Mine was wrinkled, but if you stretched it out you could see the cracking starting. I'd say have them look at it. Mine had no problem fixing it. He even went as far to saying that should of never happened.

mine was cracking to the point the gray would flake off and you could see white specs all over the place. They said it was common for GM vehicles. Is wheat the gray color? :)

For those of you getting it fixed under warranty, is your dealership using OEM leather seat covers from Hummer, or having them custom done by a local shop?
I'm asking because in my opinion, if they're getting OEM covers, they're just replacing crap leather with more crap leather. Both front seats on my truck look like dog**** after 30K miles (and I have them professionally cleaned and conditioned once a month with high-end products). I had my previous Tahoe's seats covered at the dealer (work done by a custom shop with good non-OEM leather), and they looked much better after 160K miles than my H2 seats look after 30K.
I'm getting ready for a dog fight with my service guy.

Pete,
They sent mine off to have the work done at a custom shop. Guy said that was because they couldn't handle it there (dealer). I don't know if it's OEM or another kind of leather. I'll let you know when I get my truck back.

That's what I was using on my truck. Like I said every other seat looks okay. Just the driver seat was cracking. Mine isn't even a year old.

Sorta Gray. There is only the Wheat seats and the black seats out there.

Well just picked my truck up from the dealer. They said they sent it out to a local leather shop and used real leather not the OEM replacement. Here are a few pic's. Looks great.
Driver side (redone):

Ken call up the dealer. I'm sure they will take care of it. With mine it wasn't even a problem they looked at it and said "that should of never happened". As you can see by the pic's if they send it to a leather shop and don't use that crappy OEM stuff it will look better than new. Mine wasn't even that nice the day I bought it. Good luck.:D

Hell if my boss would of gave me the time off for MOAB. I would of been in the upper 20k range. I drive a ton with work. I really was looking forward to Moab too.
MovinH2...
Did yours look like this? (This was my '03 with 26k miles on it.) It was on both the passenger AND driver side.

Yes but mine was cracking off. Like flaking off everytime I rubbed my hands over it. Yours looks awful too. Hopefully they replaced it?

MY '03 with Wheat also crapped out on the drivers side. I had that section redone, but mine actually split at the seams! I have 62k on the beast.
Took the oppty to go ahead and get a custom look on the headrests though.....what do you think? Can't pass up an oppty to spend more money on the H2! :D

Nope, but I traded it that week on an '05. ;) (The photos were to send to the dealership I was trading it in to... no, not local!)

Did you get wheat in the 05? If so how do they look?
Yes, wheat again. So far they are good (14,500+ miles) but, I cringe every time my teenage son "slides" out of the seat like a sloth!!! I'm just hoping they hold up better this time!

I'll give it time and see how the rest hold up. My dealer seems cool about it so I'm sure they'll redo the others if need be. But so far they look good. Heck the back seats look brand new. And we always have someone riding back there.

In response to your prior post to me, the sales manager for our local dealer is on here frequently, but hasn't responded. He just knows I'm going to be popping in wanting new seats.:D ;) ;)

LMAO. Make sure to get yourself some real leather too. Don't let him talk you into the OEM crap.;) And hold out for a detail too.

Your replacement looks just like the one I had. But I'm pretty sure they used an oem replacement. The leather does feel different from the old stuff....not so shiny either...

Very hard for a dealer to get reimbursed for a seat cover replacement without using OEM parts. GM did do some revising to the leather seats a year ago, going with a different cut (not sure something about cut with grain or against grain...I only eat steers, I don't know a thing about leather).
Many dealers will send the vehicle to a trim shop for the OEM seat cover replacement since they do not like screwing around with hog rings, j-strips, etc. The seat cover replacement labor operation allows for sublet repair to a repair shop.
Be curious if H3 owners have the same problem; they are supposed to have the new and improved "some type of grain cut" leather. I have 15K and the driver seat looks good. A little crinkling on the outer edge, which is vinyl, but the leather inserts still look good.

Just check the service log from that day, I had other stuff done. It doesn't show they ordered anything just say's "sent for service of" Hopefully it isn't OEM. I looked a few times today and even asked my friends to look. It doesn't look anymore shinner/or less shiny than the other seats. Could be this mans old eyes though.:D

I would wonder that too. Really seems like a problem GM should address.

All manufacturers operate the same way. Warranty is paid on replacement OEM parts, unless the service or parts are not available. For example, windshield replacements can be done without factory replacement windshields and are usually done with an outside supplier.

I have an 06 with 11k miles, black leather, and the drivers side is getting the cracks on it like you all are describing. I am very carefull to pick myself up getting in and out, so I don't know why it's so bad. I'm surprised they'd replace it under warranty, but based on what i've read here, i'll take it in to the dealer and try.

But on a more serious note my 02 avalanche [ with 30,000 miles] drivers seat had wear wrinkles exactly like that-- it was charcoal but my wifes96 Firebeird with 40000 miles neutral colour [beige ]shows no wear, were the cows growing tougher hides or what?
