Hi all
Moved this topic from the general area.
I called Los Gatos Hummer and asked about it. The service manager said that it could be true but I have to be exact on which "updated programming" I am talking about.
So, does anyone know which "updated programming" I have to ask for? I found this info from Factory code download (http://elcova.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=2826088551&f=5106011751&m=162101037)

I had already tried that because I took mine in to get some stuff done today. I couldn't tell much by it so I told my service guy to update my programming on everything as I had heard there was new programming that provides better settings for the engine.
I'll post as soon as I get it back, I assume tomorrow.

I don't have part numbers or any information yet because my $150, 3 month old Optima Yellow Top battery went bad and they couldn't do anything with my truck. Of course, I had no idea where I bought the battery, had no receipt, so I had to buy a new Optima and wait until the battery place "tests" my 3 month old Optima before they will credit the money.
Anyway, I talked with Gerald (main Hummer Service Tech) and he said he will update me with all new programming updates and there is one on the engine that helps with the throttle body fouling. He didn't know off hand what the other updates were but it should show up on my printout, hopefully tomorrow.

So, I can't say that there is any performance increase. I did reset the DIC for the mileage and I sat idling for about 15 minutes and drove about 65 miles to the ranch and the mileage is up from 10.5 to 11.9, so it might be getting better mileage.
I am going to try it for a few weeks and then try to play with it with the Predator Programmer to see if I can increase the performance.
On that thought, it does seem to shift better than the stock tune from before. It reacts faster. Maybe it will be much better after I use the programmer.

To all who have a Performance Programer, such as the Predator... DO NOT attempt to re-install your performance program after having this "updated programing" installed in your computer! I was just in Calif and was experiencing the problem with my idle. I put the stock program back into the vehicle and took it to a dealer to have it looked at. They cleaned the Throttle Body and installed the "updated programing". When i got the vehicle back I tried to re-install the Predator Performance Tune and it " fried the computer". I ended up having to buy a new computer, and they aren't cheap!
It is possible that this was a freak computer malfunction, but I'm almost certain it was a result of the re-flash the dealer performed. I would suggest that anyone with a Performance Programer look into this BEFORE attempting to re-install their performance tune after having the computer upgraded.

Did your Predator say anything like "writing error or script error"?
I have had habitual problems with mine. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
tourtek
08-02-2004, 10:41 PM
Yeah, that's what it said. I can't remember whether is was a "writing" or "script" error, as I was too busy trying to figure out how get out of the situation at that point! In all honesty am not blaming the programer though, as I have used this thing succesfully for almost a year, and have loaded various custom tunes with it and generally monkeyed around with different advanced settings, and have also gone back to stock to make comparisons on a few occasions. The stock tune had been succesfully re-installed in the computer, prior to the dealer making the changes. I had a gut feeling this might cause a problem, and now wish I'd checked with someone at Diablosport prior to trying to re-install the Predator tune. I think since the Predator tuner permanantly stores your original stock program data, that it saw a different/new program in the computer and locked up. I had a Jett chip I bought when I first bought the vehicle and put that back in last night, with no ill effects. I'm gonna live with it and call it good.I'm going to try and get the Predator re-set but probably won't use it again. They charge $75 for this, and I'll more than likely offer it on this forum, cheap, if I decide to have it done.

... so what is the verdict? All I have to do is take it in to the dealer and ask them to re-program it?
I got info to come up for mine on the GM site and it gives me a bunch of items; from powertrain to radio to body control module... do I have to ask for each one or just ask them to update everything?
Thanks,
David
I emailed Diablosport asking about the upgrades in the programing and this is the reply.
QUESTION: [I have a Predator for my 03 Hummer H2. Hummer has just released a couple new software updates for the engine. If I upload my factory program back in and then take it in for service at my dealer once they update the trucks software will my Predator redownload the new updated software then install the performance tune?]
------------------------------------------------------------
ANSWER:
We are aware of these new flashes and if you used the predator it would install the older revision, we are currently working on a upgrade in revision to accomodate this.

Ok, here's a question? Since my computer was "cooked" and replaced, should I assume that these latest upgrades were installed when they did the re-flash/re-program on the new one? I was told that when they re-flash a computer that the information is downloaded straight from GM into the PCM/VCM, so all the latest patches should be included? The part number on the programing is
12582605. Is their anyway to look this up and find out if it includes the latest upgrades.I'm not so sure they didn't just put in the old program that they might have previously saved somewhere?

Gas mileage is definitely better. Mine keeps getting better over time after the update and it will soon be 2MPG better, it's at about 1.5MPG better now with about 2 tanks since the programming.
If I upped my air pressure I might could reach 14-15MPG on the highway now, but I am running the stock tires at 36psi.
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by PARAGON:

I bumped mine up to 40psi. They were about 32/34 from the factory. I did it to see if mpg would change. I'll have to watch the tread wear though.
H2Finally

Mine are at 44psi -- ride is excellent, and in my experience, I can take the corners at highest speed at this psi (I live in a hilly area).
My updated programming did NOT improve mpg whatsoever. 10.9 from the beginning, 10.9 now at 12,000 miles (in only 7 months!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif). Then again, I think I got the improved throttle response programming earlier than anyone here. So the improved mpg programming could be available more recently. Hmm.. gotta ask next oil change.

Any update from Diablosport? Lyndon Wester (guy who custom programed the tune for my truck & my M.I.Laws H2 has been able to figure out the new GM tuning. He said that this was the most difficult yet, and he thinks others will have an extremly tough time figuring it out. I have a 93 HOT TUNE on my 2500HD, and I put a 87/89 dual tune on the H2. I have to say that the custom tunes made all the difference in the world.

mmayo, how is the westers pcm working.
what kind of improvements are u seeing?
mmayo
08-22-2004, 12:03 PM
I have had it on my truck (2500HD 4x4 CC 6.0L) since last october (I went with the 93 HOT Tune). It made a world of difference. I changed my shifts at WOT to 5600 and told him I wanted it geared toward power & not towing. With the 93 tune you can get ~50 more HP, and it feels like I got that! It also increased my mileage a tiny bit.
On the H2 I ordered the 87/89 dual tune, and kept the shift points at stock. So depending on what you put in the tank, the PCM will use different tables, and you'll see different results. On the 6.0L engines, with 87oct you'll see ~25 more HP, with 89oct ~35 more HP. The H2 gets much better performance with the 89oct, it doesn't downshift nearly as much as it used to on the highway when it was stock, and according to the DIC the MPG have increased a bit as well.
Lastly, since I see you have a D/A, I put a 50HP Westers tune on my dads 01 2500HD CC 4x4, Since my dad farms and really hasn't found anything the duramax couldn't handle he wanted an increase in MPG. After I put the new tuned PCM on his truck, he saw much more power and got an increase of about 2.5 MPG. We actually raced trucks from 0-100 and his pulled away from mine the whole time after he got tuned!!!
I have also ordered other tunes for friends with different combo's of vehicles. If anyone is interested in seeing what the tune did for my truck in or around the San Antonio area let me know.

They said that they were equipped to do it, but I would have to let them know what the problems are that I'm experiencing. He said that they wouldn't just throw in the updates without verifying some type of problem. He said that they have to enter info into their computer, and it would spit out the solution.. Hell...Last time I took in my H2 I didn't get squat!
I got a ride home from KB's Shuttle service (Rudy the shuttle driver was a very nice person to talk to), but I had to bum a ride and pay for gas back to the dealership in order to pick up my H2.
Not to mention had to ride my motorcycle during the day in order to get some errands run!
I need to start charging KB for all the gas I'm using to take my H2 for service. On the average, I'd say I take mine in atleast once a month, and use about a quarter tank getting it there and back.
As we all know, Gas Aint Cheap!
Each time I take it in, it is for real things, not just petty bothersome issues.
I'd say they do some kind of repair or part replacement every time it goes in.
The last time I took it in, I was back at the dealership the very next day!
Even though they did get me in and out of the dealership in one day without an appointment, it was still annoying to have to be inconvenienced in that way!
So "NO"!, the Hummer rentals are not in yet!
This last time the "basic Rentals" were not even it yet!
Sorry, Just had to vent!

Sfox, I called the local Hummer dealer here in Las Vegas and simply told them that I learned of some upgraded computer programming that has helped some owners get better gas mileage and performance. The service guy acknowledged that he did know what I was talking about and told me to have them check my current programming the next time I bring it in for service and he would download it. I plan on printing out Paragon's and Gas guzzler's posts on the first page when I take it in to show what has been done in the past. Don't know if this helps answer your question.

After reading this thread, I rushed my rig to the dealership since my warranty is about to expire. Along with all the updates Paragon stated above, I also had them flush my tranny. Mine is a '03 with only 17k miles on it http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif Anyways, the result is definitely noticeable as far as the shifting point. It's now upshifting @ higher rpm, downshifting quicker, and smoother shifting all across. I don't know if it was the reprogramming or the flush but no doubt it drives much better now http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
The only downside is instead of an increase in mpg, i've noticed a decrease so far http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I'll do some more driving to confirm this but regardless, it feels like a brand new truck http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Went in for the recall, immediately my mileage doubled & the acceleration was noticeably better from that instant. I was amazed. Alas, it didn't last. As soon as I returned the SRX loaner & picked up the H2 all returned to normal, 12.5ish mpg & rather ordinary acceleration. BooHoo.
