engine ticking

I noticed last night that there was a ticking sound (RPM related) coming from the engine compartment. Does anyone else's make this or shouldI be concerned? I've always changed the oil with synthetic every 5k haven't had any problems. Changed the air filter to a K&N last night the old one was pretty brown. I have 21k on mine now.

I've noticed this with mine on occasion but it's intermittent. Seems to occur after driving for an extended period at high highway speeds. Sounds like a valve tick....

5500 miles on mine and recently changed to Mobil 1 and it still does it. :(

Don't have this problem, but could it be an injector ticking versus a lifter? It is noted that after a long hot run, injectors tend to get a bit noisy. Or, the injector may be clogging up due to fuel varnishing; therefore, I run a bottle of Techron through the engine every oil change, which has been around every 5-6K.

Is it possible that the breather hose to the K&N tube is blocked or pinched? This hose is part of the PCV system that flushes fresh air though the engine and pulls the vapors into the intake to be burned as part of the combustion. If the breather hose is blocked a vacuum can be pulled and may impact the valvetrain lubrication.

Hard to kink the hose from the breather to the PCV orifice if just changing the air filter by lifting off the air filter box lid.
However, just remove the return hose from the camcover to the resonator and see if it is filled with dripping oil.

You're right. I read K&N filter and was thinking it was the K&N kit that replaces the resonator and stock air box. The K&N kit has a hose that connects to the cover and makes a sharp bend that can kink if done wrong.

The stock breather hose is under the resonator.

I just took mine in today at the dealer cause i thought the same thing must be a lifter but the dealer said they all do that its normal and he is always up a and honest and very nice to me .so i guess after reading this its normal for what ever reason it is.mine noise comes from the right side more.

Mine sounded like it was from the right side also. Thanks for the info, I'll just keep an eye on it.
