View Full Version : Auto Fold Mirrors?

Any ideas how to get this done with the remote? I.e., unlock --> unfold, lock --> fold?

Would really, really be grateful, since I'm one of those that do em every single time I park, many, many times a day..

Maybe someone just tell me which cable under the mirror switches that fold/unfold both mirrors? Maybe I can hook it up with a logic that checks "engine OFF --> doors unlock --> momentary signal unfold" etc...?

Kodiakz? Phil? Para? Klaus? F5? LasVegas? Beuler?

I had my mirrors done when I bought an aftermarket alarm system for my SUT. When I disarm my vehicle, my mirrors fold out and my AMP running boards fold down. When I arm my vehicle, my mirrors fold in and my AMP running boards fold up. I'm sure I can find out how it was done from the audio shop that installed the alarm. I totally prefer this setup for my mirrors rather than holding the fold in/out button every time I park my truck.

Conrad, that would be awesome, if you can find out for me how they wire it! Thanks a bunch!!

I'm picking up my truck today, so I'll ask the installer when I get to the shop. When I get the info I'll post it on this thread.

I fold mine many times aday also, not to mention I always fold them when I park in my garage. Would be cool if they could be programed to fold in when you turn vehicle off and then fold out when you turn the truck on.

I used to have my windows roll up whenever I armed my car, having the mirrors fold in would be similar. You could do it with just relays, but I'm thinking... you could probably use a dei 530t module (http://cgi.ebay.com/VIPER-CAR-ALARM-POWER-WINDOW-ROLL-UP-MODULE-DEI-530T_W0QQitemZ120016342760QQihZ002QQcategoryZ75389 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), which is for window automation. That should cover everything, it watches the resistance, so when the mirrors fold completely in or something stops them, it will shut off so you don't burn out your motor.

Easy to wire, give it +12v, ground it, hook it up to the wires at the switch and with aftermarket, the ground when armed wire or with normal, something that grounds when the car is locked via remote.

You could even make the mirrors constantly fold in and out if someone sets off your alarm, that would be the coolest. :D

Lol! Not dishing you dei. Just that where/which wires "that grounds when locked via remote" and to "hook it up at the (mirror fold) switch", are exactly the questions -- for ConradII.. :D

Yeah, yeah! That's what a multimeter is for. ;) Not having an h2, the only thing I could think of is to reverse the polarity of the lt. green wire (factory disarm) in the drivers door module in door to get your ground when armed w/factory. And you just hook one wire up to one wire that goes to the mirror at the switch and the other to the other one. Simple! But you can wait for conrad to make sure. :D

Sorry I haven't posted a reply yet. The installer who wired up the auto fold mirrors has been out of town and I haven't gotten a chance to meet up with him yet. The good news is that my mirrors work perfect and they work nicely with the amp research steps. I would recomend this accessory to everyone, especially if you park in the city and value your mirrors. I will get in touch with the installer asap and post a reply.:D

This wouldn't be too bad. Would you be using a factory remote or an aftermarket? The aftermarkets offer the options of sending a momentary (-) and a (+) depending on the button pressed and wire used. Worse case scenario, you'd have to use a relay. What would you say your technical level is with wiring?

While I am no expert, I have ran extensive wiring in the truck, and very familiar with relays. I also have experience with modules which provide the momentary (-) or (+) when triggered, if needed.

What I need is the cable color/info to tap to/from. I.e., which cable to receive trigger signal from factory remote, and which cable(s) to provide signal (with relays) to trigger the auto-fold/unfold of the side mirrors.

I'm sure many here would find this mod very useful. Any help would be awesome Dragon!! :)

I hope someone can get the wiring diagram for these auto folding mirrors, My mirrors would get stuck and not fold in due to the loss of grease in the swivel part, I'm going to drill a small hole and add a grease fitting so every 6 mos I can add some grease. If you go through car washes there is no gasket between the swivel and stationary part, once water starts to get in it there is an E clip that is steel. The E clip starts to rust and there is no grease in it and then it siezes but still makes a noise and alot of people think there mirrors need replaced because they think the gears are stripped. It's easier for the dealership to tell to replace them but very costly. I"ll try to get some pics of the grease fitting procedure. Everything works beautiful now...

Check Your manual to be sure that this is not a function You can set with steering wheel buttons. I sat once and went through all the choices you could make and seems it was one of them. It has been a long time since i checked it out though.

I don't think it's a DIC feature. You can set the mirrors to Curb View on either Driver, Passenger, both, or neither. But this only tilts the mirror itself downward when in Reverse for a better view of the curb in relation to the rear wheel(s).
