I have a totally blacked out 2003 H2 and since my mirror motors have died they will be replaced with 2006 pieces. As you know, all 2006 mirror housings have chrome* parts.

I know some of you (redstradic & others) have blacked out the chrome parts of your 2006 mirror housings and I'm looking for details on how you accomplished it and how it's held up since.

Thanks in advance!

* Chrome might not be the right word here, since the shiny bits aren't actually shiny from electrolytic deposition of chromium.

Line-X on my mirrors and removeable side steps has held up great. I am very happy with the look and wear (none). 9 months and still looks great.

I have things Line-X'ed on our truck, but I'd paint those with Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner. You have to remove the "chrome" piece to have it Line-X'ed so you risk breaking something when you start yanking.

Easier to mask and paint vs. pull and break.;)

Carefully pull/pop the mirror out of its housing. Then remove the 3 screws and the mirror comes apart. Remove the chrome piece, scuff it up, clean all dust and debris from the surface to be painted, primer, paint and reassemble.
