I just bought a 2003 Yukon XL from a friend of mine. I decided to keep my H2 since I really like it and the two can't be compared. My question in about the Yukon. It has the 8.1 liter engine and I can't believe how bad the mileage is on this thing. I don't get why the Hummer is such a lightening rod for the tree huggers other than they have no idea about the mileage on other rigs. I get 12 mpg in my H2 but the Yukon gets 8 mpg. It is a 4x4 and does have the monster engine. I like the tow rating at 12,000 lbs and I bought it so I could pull more the the H2 can pull but the mileage is brutal comparitively speaking. Is 8 about the going rate for the 496 cu in engine? That is around town, haven't had it on the freeway yet.

Glad you did your part, Ken!!

Remove Excess Weight
Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2%. The reduction is based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle's weight and affects smaller vehicles more than larger ones.

Fuel Economy Benefit:1-2%/100 lbs

Equivalent Gasoline Savings:$0.03-$0.06/gallon

Thanks guys for the info, at least I know I am in the ballpark MPG wise. Steve we are looking at toy haulers right now but if I keep buying cars (this makes five) I will be using it to haul all my sh!t out of the house after my old lady kicks me out. In which case 12,000 lbs won't cut it.
