Took my 2006 SUV in today for the first oil change (approx 8K miles) and I mentioned a creaking sound from the rear when there was any suspension travel. Dealer has now advised that the rear lower control arms had to be replaced!? .....after only 8K miles? Is this a common occurrence? And will they just replace bushings?

They will change both rear lower control arms. It appears that whoever supplies these arms to GM supplied a batch of bad ones that will make noise with very low mileage. There is not a lot of these trucks still out there. If you have more than 6k miles and you don't hear it you probably never will. This affects only some early 06 models.

Well, anyway, the truck is quiet now.......:violin: I also tried to get the dealer to replace my passenger side torsion bar because the adjustment bolt was cranked up about 7/8 from the factory (drivers side only about 1/3).....doesn't leave me any room to adjust front end up an inch or two. They gave me the polite "dealerese" NO. Oh well, I'll try again next time...or maybe another dealer. :violin:

If it is run all the way up (almost) your torsion bar is weak and they will replace under warranty. With torsion bars relaxing over time, you can't afford to have no adjustability in the bolts.
My PS was run up and the DS was run way out, to the point that it was hanging up on things.

that sounds hopeful...maybe I just need to corner a service manager. I'll post pics once I retrieve the digital camera from my cabin in a week or two (that is if I can figure out how to do it....us old farts are cyberchallenged...but sometimes I surprise myself)
