Virginia is the best state for business, Forbes.com says

Virginia is the best place for business in the U.S., according to a ranking by Forbes.com (http://www.forbes.com/) released Tuesday evening.
This morning, Gov. Tim Kaine said the first-place rank means the state is ?on the right track to lead the way.?
?Today I reaffirm our pledge to continue working in a bipartisan way with our legislature to build on Virginia?s reputation as a national leader,? the governor said in a statement.
The study considered the costs of business, labor issues, regulatory and economic climates, growth prospects and the quality of life in the state.
According to Forbes.com, Virginia ranked in the top 10 of all six categories, something no other state did

Beach ranked 10th best city to get a job

Forbes Magazine listed Virginia Beach as the 10th-best city in which to get a job, citing the Hampton Roads economy's reliance on trade and the military as well as growing corporate back-office operations.
While the magazine named Virginia Beach in its weekly e-mail newsletter, it said the metropolitan area includes Norfolk and Newport News.
Forbes examined unemployment rates, living costs, median household income, job growth and income growth to rank the best cities in which to get a job among the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas.
The magazine ranked Washington No. 1, Richmond sixth and Raleigh, N.C., seventh. Virginia, Florida and California were the only states with multiple cities in the top 15.

New York City recorded more violent crimes than any other US city, but it is actually one of the safest big cities in the country. City Mayors used data from the FBI and the US Census Bureau to devise league tables of America?s safest big cities. (The tables include data for the 50 largest US cities. However, there are no figures for Indianapolis and Washington DC.) According to City Mayors? calculations, Virginia Beach is the country?s safest big city with 224 reported violent crimes per 100,000 citizens. Atlanta, the most dangerous big city in the US, is credited with 2,065 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Detroit, Miami, Las Vegas and Baltimore complete the top five of most violent big cities. New York City recorded 750 violent crimes per 100,000 during 2003.
