Hi,
I am looking to pick up a rear tire carrier (pref used) and I have heard some models are better than others.
Any suggestions on what to get and what to look for if I buy a used one?

I have a used predator motorsports tire carrier I'm looking to get rid of. Same reasons as Phil, thought I'd like have the tire back there, but just became to cumbersome with a family of 5...PM me if you're interested...
I'll agree with Phil and doc about the nuisance factor.
But perhaps roof mount isn't in the plans for you as racks can be expensive and not all garage doors are tall enough.
I put a Husky Liner (http://www.huskyliners.com/h2carrier.html) model on my 2003 right after I got it. It installed easily had a nice plug to add the license plate light without splicing, and it has a nice lever handle to open and close it rather than a goofy latch. Recently, I knocked the light housing off and Husky Liner's express shipped me a replacement housing and bulb at no charge, so I got good service from them.
I still plan on doing a roof rack with the tire up top sometime because of the nusisance.

I have had the Predator for 3 years and love it. More room in the back for stuff. Tire there when we have a blow out. And we have had blow outs. The only thing that sucks is the swing distance you need when opening and closing. And our latch broke once and Predator replaced at no charge.
