Ok so I've been MIA for a while, but I've been doing some great stuff. Most recently went to Dubai, and the Maldives too. Dubai was like a fantasy world. Super posh but also a bit tacky as well. There were super exotic cars everywhere and I had drinks at the world's only 7 star hotel. What could possibly make any trip better, well a little offroading of course. . . .

I've managed to see an H2 on every trip i've been on in the last 3 years, no matter where. Kinda freaky.

So once everyone showed up at the rendevous it was time to head into the desert ourselves. This was a guided tour so I didn't get to tear it up myself, but my friends wife, who signed us up for this told them that I offroad all the time, and "they better give us a driver that doen'st suck." (actual words) Well they obviously took her seriously because our driver was a total nut. He flew over the edge of several large sand hills and I was probably the only one in the truck that wasn't about to puke. Interestingly enough when we were on some side slopes we would constantly get to a point were it felt we would roll, then at the last second the truck would fall down the slope softly instead of roll, it was an incredible sensation, too bad there are no deserts near NYC.
Later our drivers let us out while they performed a show for us on a large sandhill. It was like a fourway game of chicken.

Very nice!! The arabian tours logo cracks me up with the camel. Sounds like there was some variety there. I've seen photos of those huts before. Don't they have a fishing hole inside the hut?

Here's a photo from my balcony of an H2 leaving a McDonald's in Jeddah. Probably going to the mall. Exciting, I know.

Hey, how come those guys are wearing white dresses?
those are called dish- dasha's, that is what the the muslim men in the region wear.
The women wear the black robes. In Dubai the emirates (locals) are all quite well off as the emirate has a great deal of wealth and all benefit from it. Outsiders perform almost all work.
So although they are muslim they are quite blingy. In the fancy shopping malls you could see emirati women with very blinged out black robes and sporting designer clothes and alot of jewlery underneath. They put on a somewhat modest appearance in public but these are some of most wealthy and extravagant people in the world.

Peter, did you go to the Palm Islands?

How were you treated? It's pretty common knowledge that Dubai's oil is going to be depleted in the very near future and all this construction is in an effort to increase their American and European tourism.

What did you think?
