I just need to post this before I commute to L.A. for work. My Hummer was stolen on Video from the parking lot where I work. The lowlife scums that took it apparently had thier own Key. Police said where I had it serviced last is where the lowlife scumbag got my vin#, personal information, made a key and thus walked up to the hummer got in and drove away. I had it serviced at a wana be new and being built Hummer dealership in the Tustin Auto Center, Ca.
This is alot closer to me than Cerritos or my dealer on Ontario. Onstar was Useless in getting a location on it even though I called 15 minutes after the incident.Whittier Police Dept took an hour and thirty minutes to respond.I have to now get in my toyota celica that Farmers Insurance has put me in to get to work. I am pissed at everyone.

While I would sympathized victim of stolen vehicle, above story doesn't make any sense. If this lowlife works at tustin auto center, why can't he simply make a copy of the key? If you work in LA, what does whittier PD has to do with this? And farmers insurance is putting you in your own toyota celica? Or are you saying they put you in a rental celica? I don't know of any place that rents out celicas, not to mention they've stopped making celicas for sometime now:confused:

You are pissed at everyone? That I believe you:yawn:

The Celica thing doesn't surprise me. State Farm has provided me with Gremlins, Pintos, and Edsels as loaners during the countless recent thefts of my Hummer by dealer-insiders.

It's definitely a strange first post. Can't imagine owning an H2(?), not having any interest in posting, but suddenly feeling the urge after it was stolen. Further, it seems like almost all Hummer owners (as opposed to posers) would mention whether their vehicle was an H1, H2, or H3 at least once in such a post.

O.k. I'm home from work and as a long time reader of this forum I am sorry that I have never posted anything before, but have used this forum for valuable information. I only posted now that something as important as a service tech at a Dealership copying a vin# and getting personal information, then stealing my H2(2004) might be of some concern to everyone.Whittier Police services Sante FE Springs, CA.( L.A. county.) I am driving a Toyota Corrola provided by Farmers Insurance as a rental, my bad I thought it was a celica (all the same to me) I don't work at a dealership, the police said that is where the lowlife scumbag made a key and got my personal information (where I work) and stole my H2. 52 hours later I am now thinking i will never see my H2 agian. My Full coverage insurance will only pay Kelly Blue Book according to Farmers......my loss is about 25K. After all is said and done I will buy another H2 and put Lojack, the club, and a kill switch. whatever it takes. i can't let them win.

Make sure you get GAP insurance with your next purchase. Gap insurance covers the difference between what you owe, compared to what the vehicle is worth in case it is totaled for ANY reason (even theft)

Good luck

I'd say gap insurance would have saved him $25K. Doesn't sound too STUPID to me.

I would definitely change to State Farm. When I totalled my 6 week old H3 the only thing I was out was the few bits of bling I had already added. I have been with State Farm for 18 years and am very happy with them.

Sorry to hear about the theft. That really sucks. If they catch the bastards who stole it, drop us a post. I'd be willing to hop a flight from Dallas to get in on the stump hanging.

I'm sure it would be better to just pay cash for all of your vehicles and not have to deal with any extra insurance requirements, however, if you do have a note on your vehicle, having GAP insurance, it is just the financially responsible thing to do

I have "a note" on mine because it was dumb to pay all cash, considering how cheap the rates were. But I didn't finance the entire purchase price and had the ability to cover the "gap" should something occur, if there happened to be a gap.

It's stupid because you should not be putting yourself in the position of HAVING TO HAVE gap insurance to begin with. If you really think it's the smart thing to do, I have some Enron stock I would like to sell you....... cheap.

It's logic 101. If it doesn't make sense for someone who pays all cash for his vehicle, it wouldn't make sense for someone financing theirs. If you HAVE to finance the entire amount to make the deal work for you, then you are stretched too thin and don't need to be buying the stupid thing and certainly should keep away from the position that requires you to need gap insurance.

nope, tis stoopid, as I said.

I assume your logic 101 class only applies to an individual's vehicle purchase. Or are you suggesting that the whole bond capital market is wrong?

They pulled the same BS when I had my Tahoe stolen. I would get pictures of your vehicle and recipts of all acessories, etc. and give copies to insurance. They will try to low ball you, just prove that its worth more than what they say, meet in the middle, get your check, buy new hummer. I would get an aftermarket starter kill switch installed than notifies your key fob when the alarm is tripped. That way you can run out and beat the crap out of the assailant . The Tahoe was my third stolen vehilce, so I have become indifferent when it comes to vehicles. I realized they can easilty be replaced, and often I ended up with cooler vehicles afterwards.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kbb value for my '06 was $25k (or more) less than it cost. Book value doesn't tend to reward you for mods and bling and all.

i used to have a 240sx converted almost totally into a race car. The engine was so cammy it would lug under about 4000 rpm. It got creamed one day by a pickup and pieces of the thing were strewn up and down the street...

and they offered me something around $5000, which was Kbb at that time. That was completely horrid for me, as i'd spend $30k on the car (or more) in mods alone.

By freak coincidence, i found a 240 listed on ebay that had very close to exactly the same mods, and the ebay listing had 1/4 times and so forth. I showed it to the insurance people and they paid me exaclty waht the car sold for on ebay.

It may be helpful to try to track that kind of thing. What does a truck with whatever you had go for -vs- a stock truck.

Cops detail elaborate car thefts
September 18, 2006
BY MAUREEN O'DONNELL (modonnell@suntimes.com) Staff Reporter http://ad-images.suntimes.com/RealMedia/ads/Creatives/empty.gif/empty.gif (http://a3.suntimes.com/RealMedia/ads/click_lx.ads/www.suntimes.com/output/news/953216170/Middle/empty.gif/empty/30633032313630613435306561613830)
Call it the case of the car-cloning con artists.
Police say an audacious trio of scammers may have duped more than 50 people into buying stolen vehicles through a slick scheme that switched vehicle identification numbers.
"Now we have the unpleasant duty of knocking on their door to say: 'It's stolen. It's not yours. We gotta take it,'" said Grand Central Area Chicago Police Lt. Rick Batrich.
The theft ring, which focused mostly on high-end sport-utility vehicles such as Escalades and Tahoes, turned a "tremendous profit," said Cmdr. Dean Andrews.
In just one of the dozens of cases, the trio turned a $1,000 investment into a $20,000 profit. Here's how it worked, Andrews said Sunday:
?The suspects traveled to several states to buy salvage cars that had been in wrecks.
?Brought the vehicles to Illinois and retitled them.
?Scoured city neighborhoods for identical cars and obtained the VINs by scanning them through windshields or other spots.
?Obtained keys from locksmiths for the matching cars targeted to be stolen. (They used registration papers from the lookalike salvage cars and claimed to be owners who had been locked out.)
?Drove off in the stolen cars, removed their VINs and replaced them with VINs from the salvage cars.
?Placed ads in papers -- including the Chicago Sun-Times -- offering the re-tagged vehicles for sale.
Quick turnaround

Charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle were "ringleaders" Jacob Lunga, 30, of the 5300 block of South Massasoit, and his girlfriend Rene Covert, 22, as well as Silviu Angel, 20, of North Carolina. Lunga and Angel, who are from Romania, call each other "cousins" but are not related, police said. Lunga and Covert, who have a child, have previous burglary convictions.
The theft ring's headquarters? A one-car Chicago garage outfitted with an engine hoist, rivets, many VIN tags and a turnaround time that rivaled a NASCAR pit crew, detectives said.
After seeing a suspected stolen vehicle enter the garage, officers executed a search warrant and found that "within 10 minutes, they had over half of the VIN tags removed,'' Andrews said.
"This is not an amateur operation," he said. "They were very good at what they did."
The investigation took two months, and it is believed the plot continued for more than a year, according to police.
The ring stole cars from police districts including Albany Park, Grand Central, Jefferson Park, Rogers Park and Town Hall, and sold them to buyers in the city and suburbs, detectives said.
"We anticipate a lot more charges," Andrews said, adding that the scam was uncovered through the work of Batrich, Sgt. Philip Cappitelli and Detectives Stanley Colon, Steve Murrin and Sean Callaghan. Lunga, Covert and Angel are expected to make a Sept. 22 court appearance.

--Johnnow, see. be careful before you run around with a mouth full of foot.

There is much more than Paragon on the east coast and most none of it offers any views, but accomplishing obstacles can be done anywhere and doesn't require a view. Some people enjoy wheeling obstacle strewn places such as Paragon. If you pushed your truck, you could find all you ever wanted to do in those thousands of acres.

Some places have just a few trails on less than 1000 acres but the trails are technically difficult and take a day to traverse. They also change from visit to visit. They are pretty awesome. I could wheel K-rocks every weekend for years and be content and it's less than 1000 acres and certainly offers no views.

That is correct......report your car stolen and about one and a half hour later you'll get a response.
