Amazing! How any level of government thought this suit had enough basis to warrant filing is beyond me:

I hope GM throws it back in their face. GM launched the EV1, and CA could not supply an infrastructure to make it feasible to drive in CA. CA gives emission waivers for older vehicles, yes it costs the owners, but they will allow older dirty vehicles on the road.
If I were the auto industry, I would pull out of CA and let the damn people ride horses (but they pollute too) until they start electing officials that have some brains and are not in it for the politics.
This type of lawsuit is similar to the lawsuits the idiot liberals tried to force on the Gun industry to run them out of business. Don't they realize if these auto companies lost billions on this type of lawsuit, they would go out of business, hundreds of thousands of people would be out of work, and this country would be in the middle of a civil war?
In addition, if people would only look at the weather charts for the past million years, they will see we are headed for another warming period, with or without man's help. I was just in a Museum of Paleontology in NY a few weeks ago, and my cousin (who is a geologist) and I were looking at the long term weather charts showing the weather conditions over the past million years and it goes up and down every so often, and it appeared we are on the normal upswing again.
Like the one scientist stated a few months ago on the news, we are headed for a warm spell, then into an ice age, and man is helping it along. Probably due to man, it will happen 500 years sooner than mother nature's original intent. When you are talking tens of thousands of years, 500 means nothing.
Rant over....

It is not just the subject, I hate frivolous lawsuits that governments and slim bag attorneys file against other parties. They waste our tax money in the court rooms, and the parties sued (in this case the auto manufacturers) have to spend millions to fight the damn things. Guess what, the costs are passed on to the consumer.

beyond priuses (prii?), its basically every toyota. No brand has the kind of blinders-on do-no-wrong fanatical loyalty of toyota. They run around proclaiming their 4Runner a masterful offroad machine, they honestly seem to believe that driving a prius will bring back the DoDo bird, and if anything goes wrong its forgiven because, hey, its a toyota, so its still better than everything else.
Part of 'yotas rep for quality probably relates to their drivers having a higher tolerance for propblems than other brands, maybe due to the toyota fanaticism. "Darn engine fell out. Thank god its a toyota or it could have been worse! gotta love 'yota quality"
When history writes the book on Toyota, they won't be remembered for quality or hybrids or how big they got. They'll be remembered as the most successful marketing company ever. The 150 billion dollar company who sold themselves to environmentalists as "we're the only people really trying to help the world".

My neighbor has one, a few weeks back we all went in my H2 to an outdoor concert.
As we were leaving a family walked by and their boys started chanting, HUMMER, HUMMER, HUMMER.
I turned around to my neighbor, smiled and said, "that happens to you in your Yota sometimes doesn't it?"
His Wife about wet her pants laughing :giggling:

thats funny. :D
somewhere in japan, some guy who's just as interested in his bottom line and stock price as the CEO or director of marketing of any other huge company (or small company) is laughing himself to sleep every night over how such a huge company can convince hollywood that they, and they more than anyone else if not they alone, truly love trees, and really, probably, they are only in business to try to help trees.
to be an brand enthusiast is totally cool and natural. I'm a GM pickup enthusiast and probably prone to judging other pickup types harshly. I'm an H2 enthusiast and probably prone to bias there as well.
But i'll never start a thread saying "thank god for GM, without them where would american industry be. thank god for the H2, all american to the core". Or freak out at somebody if they have a gripe about their truck.
Like 'em or hate 'em, i think we have to admire toyota. they're the antithesis of GM and Hummer when it comes to marketing. They get it done, and done so well, that their customers are walking recitals of the brochures.
I should wish for half as much skill and tact.

Yes, they are fanatics, I must agree. They will pay any price for the "Toyota reliability" and really think nothing about getting raped on price. My dad loves is LC's but they can barely tow his two horse trailer, and when you get to a hill, it's time to floor it just to maintain about 50MPH, IF the hill isn't too steep. But he refuses to buy a real machine (like an H2, or Tahoe for that matter) because he doesn't trust American companies and their "reliability".

Toyota is great at marketing. If you have noticed lately, as Toyota increases production, they are also increasing the number of recalls they have each year.
Another oddity is that JD Powers actually shows quite a few GMs in the top 10 positions, and Saturn has always falling a close third behind Lexus and Infinity in Customer Satisfaction surveys.
