View Full Version : Buying an 05 H2. What to look for?

Hello. I am looking at an 05 H2, with just about every factory option on it. Nav, rear headrest entertainment, 3rd row, etc.
Are there any typical areas to look at on the truck or issues that are common?
He says the color is "Stealth Gray". Looks more like a 'Strange Blue' than gray. Was this a one year color?
Thanks in advance...

color is now called slate blue metallic...great color...but i am partial.... how many miles on the truck? I think if you talk with paragon and some of the other hummer vets on here they will tell you the technical things to look for.

Truck has 20,000 miles on it. One owner, clean carfax (if that means anything). I have no knowledge of Hummers, it caught my eye, so I figure I'd give it a shot. It's still under warranty for quite a bit longer, I just wanted to look for anything that I should be concerned with.
Thanks,
MJB

well i'd look underneath for the obvious signs of off road abuse and neglect. The front skid plate and side rocker panel guards will take a beating off road. I am not the most mechanically inclined in the world, but looking and spending some time without the salesmen breathing down your back is always good.

Is it from a private buyer or dealer? Open the hood, check the oil. Smell it, see if it smells burnt. Just like mikejr said, look underneath to see if its been offroaded a lot.
Also kick the tires. why? I don't know. Just do it.

I did that, and my foot bounced off. Is that a good sign?

Check the bumpers for pee. If found, it's probably been abused in Moab. ;)

Hmmm..No pee detected. I took the truck for another ride today - armed with some info I gleemed from this site after reading posts last night for 2 hours. Everything seems fine with it. I pick it up tomorrow. I'll posts some pics (not like most of you haven't seen a H2 before) when I get it home.
One thing I did notice that they are going to check out was at about 70mph there was a slight 'plastic sounding' vibration/rattle right above my head from outside. It's either the amber light cover that's up there, or the wind deflector for the sunroof. Either way, they are going to check it and take care of it. Anyone here have an idea what that might be?

While driving 70mph, look around in the truck, that squeeking plastic sound could be coming from any one of the 10,000 plastic pieces in there.:D And if the sqeek isn't there now it will be sooner or later.

Mike, the rattle is coming from the outside plastic peice on the A Pillar. It vibrates and rubs against the windshiel. Just need to put some insullation tape of a bead of silicon under it. Mine came from the passenger side.
Remeber to kick the tires.

Picked up the truck today, all seems well. Got it up to about 95 on the way home, and no rattles.
Thanks for all the help.
Here are a couple pics. Tomorrow the windows get tinted, so I'll take some more pics after it's done. I like it so far. Way different from my Expedition - going to take some getting used to.

Nice catch. I put "Faster" in the DVD player to see if it worked.
At least he landed it. Hear he's going to WSBK next year. We'll see if he does as much crying over there as he did in GP.

Yup... thats why they call him Bitchaggi. He will be riding for Corona Suzuki next year. Although he's such a whiner, he should add some good flavor to the series.

I bought an 05 Adventure Series new from the dealer (see option list below). It's been 100% perfect. I don't think there any problems that are specific to the 05 model year.
I hope your luck is as good as mine has been.

I read your options...How do I find out if my second row seats recline?
GeorgeSSSS

The won't recline unless you buy special second row hardware that is made by a very nice fellow in Japan. His company makes reclining brackets for a number of U.S. cars -- -- Escalades, Tahoes, and H2s among them. I bought directly from him about a year ago, and that gave him the idea to sell in the U.S. I think his product is available on E-Bay for something like $500.
If you want to recline the left rear seat, you must relocate the jack [which is hidden behind the left rear seat] or leave the jack at home. For my use, the H2 is just me and my two boys. We only need to recline the right rear seat, so we got the lazy way out.
I think the reclining hardware is terrific and I would definitely get it again if I got another H2.
