the link above takes you to a hummer H3 video of rock climbing, basically looks like an easy trail, and the H3 fails poorly.

I am trying to get a new H# and my brother in law keeps telling me they are the worst thing you can spend money on if your looking for an offroad vehicle.. any one have any proof otherwise?

You should ask your brother in law what he thinks the better truck would be then. I dont know of any other vehicle that can be compared(in the same price range as the H3) to it. Every vehicle has its strength's and weakness, but to me it sounds like you brother in law is a "Hummer Hater."

:iagree: Ask him if the money you are purchasing it with is coming out of his pocket. Then tell him to stfu and give him a good open hand slap across the face.

jeesh guys, worry much? i'm no "troll", whatever that means.. my brother in law works for GM, and when I asked him to get me an employee discount code for the H3, he threw a fit and said the H3 is the biggest joke at GM.. i'd be better getting a toyota FJ, or a grand cherokee and putting bigger wheels on it.. i'm dead set on getting a hummer soon though, i like the looks of them, even if they might not be the strongest off road vehicle.. here's the corrected link

The truck performed great. The H3 is the most you can get stock for the money anywere. Most crap like your throwing is new owners with no skills who didn't even brother to know what the buttons do.

Wow, if I worked for GM, I sure wouldn't be bad mouthing products that my company builds and that's how I make my money. That can't be good. What's his name? If he don't want his job, I'll sure as heck take it as I'm sure many others would.

That video is crazy, who's driving and where the heck is the spotter? Nasty lil rock slam. Still not a 3 though.

You need to go out wheeling in a H3, go with someone here, someone you know with one, someone who knows how to put the truck through it's paces. If you're close to Moab, look Neo up in about a month after we're settled, he'll take you for a ride alright.

Ok - so let me get this straight. I am supposed to believe a third party evaluation from some jackass who can not: A) Tell the difference between a H2 and an H3; and who does B) Use one example of mechanical failure to deplore an entire vehicle line; C) Base an evaluation on the opinion of someone who is likely disgruntled???

This can be likened to never taking and banning penicillin because some people are allergic to it or banning sex because some nutsmack doesn't use a condom and gets a STD.

Three words for ya pal (and in response to the corresponding letter):
A) Validity of Methodology / Findings
B) Reliability of Methodology / Findings
C) Subject Bias / Sample Size

If you are unable to comprehend those statements, please feel free to Google "Research Methods 101".

I am sooooo glad I earned my PhD so I can properly analyze research, disseminate findings based on fact, and call out bozos like the "rocket scientist" that started this thread.

Second, after the correct link was posted to view the video; Wow! that really sucks. But I don't know too many trucks that can smash a ty rod into a Rock, and not end up with a Malfunction.

I think the video comparing the "Mall Rated" Jeep and the H2/H3 crawling all over Earth pretty much sums up the ability of the Hummer. And yes, this photo http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=30929 also does a good job of explaining the Hummer abilities.

Interesting post there! I find it hard to believe that the H3 is a big joke at GM as a friend of mine who is an engineer with GM recently told me that production for the H3 is extremely hot right now. I find it hard to believe too that someone would degrade their job like that!

Ok, I am not sure what happened on my previous posts (maybe I'm an idiot :D), but that video that boy wonder put on there has issues:

a) Not an H3 (I know, genius here, but we all know that that is an H2)
b) I don't see where the malfunction is
c) I see a great vehicle climbing over a trail that the Jeep and FJ may or may not handle

Wasn't that 'ROCK' Hells Gate you guys? Been there done that with Neo last April. Good thing he showed that to me after the fact. I believe the rest of our lil group (sewie, the bullies, humbebe(big dave), etc.) went right on up that no prob last time we were there in August. Funny, 2 trips to Moab and I didn't see one FJ anyplace except the street. Lots of jeeps in April, not so many last time, pretty much out there on the rocks by ourselves.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I always dreamed of owning a Hummer. You know the feeling don't you? Your feeling it right now.

So now that I am a proud Hummer owner, and you still are not, and maybe never will, you wanna come post dribbel to our Hummer family about whatever?

Anyway, my point being that your in no position to make this purchase and you do not have a family member working for GM. I know you want us to believe you, but I can always smell a fart in a wind storm, and you just cut one, thank goodness my mouth was shut. :OWNED:

Trucks break down when off roading, its the beast that we all face as off road drivers. Sometimes we as drivers or our spotters take on a little extra too much that the truck can't handle. There just mechanical parts....

I think if that happened to me I would be real nice to whoever was with me and had the experience to assist in repairing it! And I wouldn't just sit and supervise either...I don't mind getting my hands dirty or greasey at all! I do all my repairs on my truck as it is now.

On a more serious note, is it possible for a novice to change a tie rod a la the above photo? Carrying spares isn't a bad idea for extreme terrain. Ok - somewhat newbie question - are the rods universal or do you need to carry one for each side (re: left and right)?

NEOCON1
09-27-2006, 03:20 PM
the trail fix is pretty simple just need an inner and outer spare . left and right side are same . count the number of turns in bent rod when removing then set new rod at same amount of turns . good enough to get to pavement , then seek professional help for an alignment check - adjustment . :jump: hey guys i just picked up a ball-joint / tierod fork that will be handy in the future for removal its in the tool bag !!!!! ;) :D

not sure on the aftermarkets yet , we just have spares from the dealer . just tell them you want an inner and outer tie-rod end . some dealers sell as kit with both . You should set up a tool kit with a metric socket set , wrenches and a couple big crescent wrenches , and a hammer :D some screwdrivers too . we dont wheel this kind of stuff that we break on by ourselves usually in groups of atleast 4 trucks with assorted tools and parts :D
