Any thoughts on what is a better offroad vehicle with some factual information to support? My friend with a z71 keeps ragging on them too bad im living in the city right now so i have no proof to show him.

the overhangs will keep the z71 from going where the 3 can . but deffinetly a better front diff is in the z . my 90 z71 has been thru the paces and never a front diff issue . but i would never try taking it on golden spike . the 3 will go alot more places with its aproach and departure angles , but a z is much harder to break . just my expierience with both ;)

invite him to your dealer's off-road track and see how far he gets and how much damage..

I was out off-roading with a Z71 Silverado on Saturday (off Hummer LK Rd:D ) and he kept hanging up on the approach and the departure. We were primarily doing mud on trails on his 100+ acres.
He hung up quite a few times on the departure, but was able to back up and power through most of them, but the rear bumper acted like a large mud scoop. The ones with solid ground, he just drove to another location and drove over the ditch.
He didn't tear off a rear bumper, but you should have seen the mud in the bumper and hitch area.
H3 only covered in mud, which is slowly disappearing thanks to mother nature and all the rain, but I did not hang up once, and never got stuck. (My tires were better than his on the two or three year old Chevy, so that was a factor.)

I think when ever you're comparing different 4x trucks you'll find different vehicles for different applications.
The H3 along with the entire hummer brand are off road vehicles.
Most of the other trucks made for the commercial market, are made for utility type work. carrying material or doing a specific task.
The H3 in trying to keep with the design of the original USGI truck was made to be what the Military wanted, a High Mobility Multi Wheeled Vehicle.
That said, It's not a tank or tracked vehicle, but can negotiate a lot of off road obstacles that other 4x's might have difficulty with.

The H3 is far more capable than the Z-71. My old Z had 9in. of lift and 35's and so far the 3 can go every where that thing would go. I think whenever I put on some better tires on the 3 is goin' to be hard to beat by anything.:D
