View Full Version : H3T Spy Shots? Looks like it!

Just days after Bob Lutz announced in Paris that Hummer needs to expand its lineup to include more models, KGP Photography has released some new shots it snapped of what appears to be the much-talked about H3T ? a four door pickup style Hummer, based on the H3. The front is obviously an H3, and the rear fender flares have been removed. I?m not sure why auto-makers always cover up the part that is different ? that?s how you find the part that has changed! I?m guessing they?re covering up what is a flat pick-up style bed in the back. Also ? when you look at the side shot, the vehicle appears to much longer than the current H3 and the H3T concept. Cool news!

doubtful in Green...but Hummer also has a history of offering green in the first year of production (H2 and H3)...so who knows. Looks like they have the 33inch Bridgestones on it...that'd help wheeling a teeny bit...but the longer wheelbase does seem like it might 'hang-up' a little easier...
With that overhangs, can you imagine trying to do Golden Spike with the crack and stairs?:twak:

What's going on with the spare tire. There's no room for a real frame integrated tow hitch with the spare there.
It's looking like the lines will be closer to the Avalanche than the H2 SUT.
I'm not digging what I've seen so far.

As I have said, worse off-road. Maybe the tire will be moved, maybe a tire carrier will be optional. What you see is not necessarily a real body mule, but maybe a driveline mule? Maybe I can't really say at this time. Maybe I better shut up.:D
Not a vehicle for me. I was disapointed they diidn't keep the original design of the concept H3T, even with the funky little rear doors. I'm personally waiting for the next number in the lineup.:jump:

I wouldn't call it a Colorado bed, but maybe the same size. Honestly, can't say for sure since I have not really looked at a Colorado body, just the engine compartment.

Eh, it just doesn't look right... I appreciate the attempt at a bigger, usable bed, but the proportions just are... strange. Maybe if that C-pillar angles back a bit more.
I changed the photoshop above for proportions (hope you don't mind RazM).
The bed was a little too long, and the C pillar didn't match what you can see through the fabric. And removed the little rubber from the back window, since I imagine it would no longer be needed. Doesn't look like the extra overhang is that terrible.

If that's it, that blows! Not even close to the H3T i have in my office.
I didn't expect it to be exact but closer to the concept. This reminds me more along the lines of a ZR2 Pickup. Wich is fine, but a letdown in my eyes.

:iagree: Seems like this will be a direct marketing of a mid sized pickup with a hummer badge. Good for Home Depot runs and ski treks.
I was really hoping they would release it as was the concept H3t. I was already priming the wife for the fact we would be trading her Audi in for it.;)
Two doors, maintaining the curent body length would have been nice. Then they could have introduced this 4 door later in the year or the following year.

Maybe it will look better later, but it doesn't appeal to me. I would have preferred a 2 door extended cab the same size as the H3. Or even a 4 door SUT version on the same chassis.
Desert Dan
10-05-2006, 07:37 PM
If they make the 4-door and an extended cab GM will sell more trucks!
And GM need to sell more cars, trucks and SUV's Fast!!
Some people want a 4-dr truck others want a longer bed with and extended cab.
Toyota does it with the Tacoma so It can't be that difficult I think it is the same frame on the 4 door with short bed and the extended cab with a 6-foot bed (at least it was on the older models).

:iagree:
There was a thread on here recently about giving up a pickup to buy the H3: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20378&highlight=pickup I remember some people had gone back to the pickup. So there's a demand I'm sure for people who want to retain the benefits of a truck bed and still have a Hummer. They're probably not represented here right now because they went with a pickup over the H3.
I think a version with 2 doors, or extended cab, with an 8ft bed would be a great addition. That way you can still squeeze in 4 passengers and have 8ft of bed.

Spy shots posted on LLN confirm Bob's comments about new Hummer models. This H3 captured is both longer than a standard H3 and is camouflaged in the rear. A close inspection reveals the tent work that is hiding the back of the truck sags aft of the B-pillar, indicating without a doubt there's a bed back there.
This is obviously the SUT version of the H3, but we're still looking for the H3T concept (http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/03december/hummer_h3t.asp) to make it to production as a dedicated truck, one we'd gladly choose over a Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon. Lutz did hint (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/29/gm-needs-hummers/) that this was a possibility, so we're keeping our fingers crossed.

5. Crew cab actually. I wonder if the bed will actually be separate, it looks a bit long for the midgate system.
I would much rather just get a Canyon crew cab, avoiding looking like a poser and pissing off fringe environmentalists.

The big problem is that the H3/Canyon drivetrains suck compared to the Nissan Xterra and Frontier.

That 5 cylinders inline has problems when compared to a lot of other same size pickup's engines.

10. The military HUMVEE is built in Mishawaka, Indiana.
The Hummer H1, the civilian version of the HUMVEE, is no longer in production.
The Hummer H2, more civilianized, experenced slowed production some months ago and now rumors are hot and heavy among the UAW Local 5 members, that production numbers will not only be cut again, close to 100 workers will be laid off.
The Hummer H3, the one in this blog, is of course made elsewhere.
How do I know this news? I live in Mishawaka, Indiana.

11. another load of american junk from GM made with that pathetic 5 cyl buzz bomb of a motor.

12. Another evidence that styling alone will sell a car/truck. The H3 is just a ugly to me as its bigger brothers (and it's a good thing because it looks just as manly macho man - village people style)
The H3 has all the visual clues that makes it look much higher and much bigger than it actually is. This is why it sells so well (being so cheap helps too)
At least GM has this one right: sell on looks. Same thing DCX did with the 300. Looks badass, sells alot.

14. I wonder if this means that DCX will announce the release of the Jeep Gladiator next month? I hope so because I am a big Gladiator fan.

17. I see a big mistake there: the bed is long. It has a big ole' rear overhand that will destory the truck rear approach angle.
There goes Hummer's credibility on off-road. And there goes the prime foundation of Hummer.

What about this!
I read an article about this one a few months ago. The guy that owns it wanted a truck, so he had a body shop build him one out of his hummer. If I recall correctly, it was completely decked out inside as well.

Does this one look any better? A bit less Ridgeline-ish I think.

NO! It doesn't look any better. No offense to your photochop.
They need to make it with a shorter bed like the H2SUT. My guess is this isn't going to make GM alot of money.

I think it would look cool to have a small bed like the sut!
the long bed doesn't look right! probably not as good for wheeling either.

The latest info I have heard is approx 20 H3Trucks per day verses 220 per day H3'S and 580 per day of Colorado, Canyons.

Start of Production August of 2008.
Hell, that's almost two years from now, and plenty of time for changes.:shhh:

You'd be suprised. Usually a vehicle is in it final stages of design by now. Not much will probably change. You'll probably see a box similar to the Colorado and Canyon with different lines.
