I haven't brought home an H2 for a test drive, and technically I'm looking for a new H3.. but pricing on the H2 used is so good.. makes me consider it now.
questions:
1. does the H2 fit in the standard garage, height wise..
2. is there any model year to stay away from due to recurring problems, parts, etc..
Take it home for the test drive and try the fit. Have someone watch the overhead to make sure you have the clearance. I only have 1/4 of the inch and had to have the garage door adjusted so that it would go all the way up. I have 60,000 miles on my 03' H2 and have not had any major issues.

I can't answer that question, but I can tell you:
I don't know what your price point is, but 2005 saw the HP & torque increase to 325/365 respectively, and was the first year available with the ebony interior on the luxes, which I really enjoy. Also, some later build 2005's had the rear tire carrier standard, and a one touch open and close sunroof. And, of course, the biggest benefit of 2005 was...
STEALTH GRAY METALLIC!!! :excited: :jump: :clapping:
There was also the introduction of the SUT, Desert Sand, etc.
Lynchhummer.com (http://www.lynchhummer.com) did a good job of covering the model year changes (http://www.lynchhummer.com/Changes/index.html), but they haven't updated that page in some time. Should be helpful for you if you're looking at used models however.
If you really like green or orange, you'll be stuck in the 2003-2004 models, as those were the only years for those colors.

for the price of a complete loaded H2, you can buy an 04 H2 with low miles with warranty left so you can extend the warranty if you wanted to.
Define standard height garage. Mine fits with a GOBI rack on it and it is 84".
Something else to consider while pulling in. is it a straight even shot in or is your driveway on a hill going down or up into the garage? Also check to see your door sits all the way up above the framework. Some hang down below.

I have a 6" lifted H2 with full size Gobi rack, 38x15.5 tire on top and it fits in the garage just fine. You must be cheating because I don't come close.:p :fdance:
Dare, you should fit just fine. You may have to turn the screw and adjust the door higher, or even cut the leftover door opener arm off. I had to do that once. Nothing a hacksaw can't handle.

When I was researching getting an H2 the '03's had a very high customer dissatisfaction value in Consumer Reports etc. As a matter of fact, my dealer told me to stay away from the '03's. Having said that, as witnessed above, there are obviously '03 owners that have not had any problems with them.
I love my '06.:clapping:
I have on '03 with 60000 on it, the only thing I have had to do is replace a cat. conv. which was still under warranty at 50000, of course there's some little things like the mirror doesn't move in or out, or the sunroof leaks on occasion. But overall it still runs like new.

I would say ANY model year is fine - just make sure that the owner has taken care of any service bulletins that have come out. The 03s have had more than the other years since it's the first production run, but there wasn't anything major. If the truck is still under warranty, you'll be fine.

To the top of the rack is about 92" and about 97" to the top of the tire. Thats with a full size Gobi rack and 2" brackets.I knew it!! You have arches!!!!;)

"THE 2" is my daily driver. Had it for a year when I decided to stop trashing it on the trails. That's when I got "THE 1". I don't worry about the carnage and stripes on it.
I did the 24 hour test drive when I was shopping for the H2. I brought it home to see if it would fit in the garage, and it did. I had to have one after the test drive.

Funny this post came up. Last year when my wife and I were looking at new houses, one of the FIRST things I would check was the height of the garage door. Back then I had a lifted Yukon but it had to be an 8" door, not a 7'.
Well we finally found the house we wanted and was so excited I forgot about looking at the garage door.
Needless to say, the H2 sits outside....
