Air Shocks???

Air Bags but not Air shocks..
A friend of mine put air bags inside the coil spings on the rear of his 4-Runner to help level out the rear end when loaded. They seem to wok pretty well.

If you get air shocks or air bags it its best to have them independent of each other so you don get air transfer from side to side when going around a turn or on a side hill. etc

Air shocks have long been discussed as an improvement for the independent front suspension (IFS) on Toyotas. In theory, the air shocks would take advantage of Newton's Third Law: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction; in this case to better distribute forces between the two wheels. I went through a few sets of shocks including Rancho RS9000s, Trailmaster Invaders, and Gabriel Gas Ryders. I prefer the air shocks to all of them, in fact I would say that this is the best modification that I have done other than a locker.


I've broken my second rancho 9000, and am looking for an alternative.

I'v used air shocks on some of my vw bug projects. I would not recommend them. They always tend to leak. I would recommend Shockwaves.. They are air bags that are shaped more like shocks.

Had air shocks in my explorer and loved them. Air up or down 0 to 200 lbs for high or low carridge pressures. Also for payload or trailer adjustments. When checking 2 or 3 months ago there were no air shock available for the H3 with Gabriel or Monroe.
There is controversey over air shocks and suspension. Its really up to the user. My 2 cents is when H3 air shocks are made.:o :) Im buying.

Yeah, wheeled it in Pine barrens South Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. As it relates to air shocks handling was good for this terrain. Aired down shocks and tires. No problems except the limits of the Explorer which had a poor turn radius.
Pine barrens is mostly sandy and piney. East Pa is small rocks and certainly shock articulation is not as significant a factor as others may face in thier respective off road arenas...
The same areas in the H3 make the explorer look like a bad memory in terms of off road performance.
