View Full Version : Problem with speedometer
I set my 04 h2 cruise control at 75 mph on the interstate the other day and after about an hour, I noticed that my speedo was showing 55, then about 5 minutes later, it showed 45. I know that I was still going 75 because my gps confirmed. Then today, while on the interstate, I set it again. then it started the same thing only this time the speedo went to 0mph. I pulled to the side and shut the h2 off then started it again. The speedo was fine the rest of my drive. Is there something wrong with...... I dont know what it could be. Can someone help? Please
Climbing through the mountains? I would say take it into the dealer and have them fix it under warranty!
no mountains, and warranty is out so "dealer" is a bad word for me. has this happened to other owners?

i had a simular problem with my RPM gauge, one day started truck and the RPM went to redline at idle, restarted truck and the needle stuck at 4500.
time to call dealer, they replaced the whole cluster under warranty, $650 or so, told me the new cluster would have to be VIN coded to my truck.
here is what "mygmlink" said after service repairs.....

Yeap, sounds like the whole instrument panel cluster needs to be replaced. Hope you are still within warranty? If not, it's not cheap. Here's another one:

If you are out of warranty, talk to your dealer anyways because I got mine done even though I was out of warranty. I guess it all depends on the dealer or how much business have you given to them before.

My speedometer went out at a 110 MPH. The funny thing I was driving around town when it went out.:giggling: Took it into the Dealership and they replace it under warranty

This happened on my 03 Avalanche... the speedo (which is the same as the H2 for the most part) has a microprocessor driven stepper-motor. This stepper motor is most likely your problem. This motor can be replaced... but with tracking down the little stepper motor and replacing it.. it may be easier to just Ebay another entire cluster gauge.
(my avalanche - the speedo needle would sometimes "hang" in one place, or just go erratic......... After a couple months of this.. it would go up to speed.. then slowly work its way to zero)
