I can't believe this gets pulled off twice a year with NO support from HUMMER. That they don't get involved in some manner to support their customers and the brand is beyond me.
Wouldn't it be great if HUMMER sent down a couple of rigs with some spare tie rods and CV's for the 2's, and diffs for the 3's?;)
Even a photogragher or two to get some stills and video would be nice.
Anyway, I just can't believe they haven't volunteered to send a cuple of people to tag along at the minimum.
Look at what Jeep does and what Toyota has begun doing. I'm floored.
I Just cannot understand this either Ken. We're contemplating selling the H2 at this point and aren't sure what will be next... ;) My H2 won;t be making this trip. The H3 will.

No I didn;t break it. I have only had this one off road a couple of times. The H2 is in the driveway all cleaned up and will be going up for sale soon. I just need to find a stock front bumper so I can take the Warn bumper/ winch off first.
I cannot wait to run the H3.

I'm bringing along H3 halfshafts & tie-rods, my dealership is loaning them to me with a credit card deposit. I either bring 'em back, or bring back the $$.
I'm dragging the whole family out, wife & two boys 9 & 12. We've got a condo at Moab Springs Ranch, can't wait to meet everyone! We're getting in on Saturday eve, anybody got plans for a nice Easter Sunday dinner somewhere?

Okay, so with a month to go I am starting to get ready. Spent Friday at CarToys with Jon (props) who installed new rear speakers and sub, relayed Onstar, door chimes, hot-wired DVD, etc. Took him all afternoon and he trefused to charge me for labor.
Dropped beast off at All American for mechanical work this morning. Hopefully will be sound enough to get home after trip.
Plates expire this month! In CO you have a 1 month grace period (till end of April) but not sure I want to be out of state with what appear to be expired tags. Emissions test required this time, too.
H2 Outfitters has new front bumper to match the rear coming. New grill guard and new exoskeleton ladders still coming this month.
Should have lots of new stuff to damage/destroy in Moab. Can't wait.
NEED A VACATION.

I just got a Hummer Happening Invitation from my SLC dealer in the mail today.
Apparently Jerry Seiner Hummer (two SLC locations) has scheduled a trip to Moab April 13, 14, and 15. They are staying at the Red Cliff Lodge with a special block rate (anybody still looking for lodging?).
Combined with our Elcova trip, there's gonna be a lot of Hummers running around in Moab after Jeep Safari.
The dealerships says they are sending some technicians down. Cris don't let this stop you from bringing those parts though. I have no idea what they're bringing with them. Just another possible solution to a problem that might possibly occur while we are there.

Saw that on the L.A. news last night, looks pretty cool.
Offered to take the wife there to go out on it, but she declined.
She doesn't like the glass wall elevators on the sides of the hotels in L.A. or S.F. - I like the views.

This epic adventure can be completed in one very long, hot, bouncy day, but to enjoy the experience and have time for side trips, plan on spending two full days on the trail. The route starts down the Shafer Switchbacks, a former cattle trail that has been upgraded for vehicles, before it splits; the Shafer Trail goes left and the White Rim Trail continues on to the right. Throughout the journey, there are numerous spur trails and vistas, such as Musselman Arch, Washer Woman Arch and Monster Tower.

we can check out some indian ruins
The trail follows the White Rim, a water-eroded shelf of light-colored sandstone, for most of the 100 miles. At about mile 66 you'll find the Fort Bottom Hiking Trail. This two-hour (round-trip) hike will take you to a lookout point with an Indian Ruin. After visiting the ruin, continue clockwise on the Rim.
Some of the favored camping spots are White Crack, Murphy Campsite and Potato Bottom Canyon. The entire route is well-marked. Follow signs to Mineral Bottom, go up the switchbacks and continue to Hwy. 313. After reaching Hwy. 313 and the pavement, turn left and head back to Hwy. 191 and Moab.
Saturday sounds good to me, that would save me the trouble of sitting up camp at Neo's just to take it down again. I'll be kinda tired after driving 12 hrs but my Co-pilot can take over.:) She would get a kick out of that.
The earliest I can possibly be there is around 2-3pm Saturday by my calcumutations.
Otherwise everything is completely up in the air for me, I am up for anything.
We do need to make sure that we are able to get any permits before hand. K? If someone will take care of that, I will cook something for us one night, if not all. It shouldn't kill us.:beerchug:

Permits are issued to walk-ins on a space available basis, and to confirmed reservation holders. Permits may be obtained in person either the day of, or the day before a trip begins. All members of a party must be present for a regulation talk at the time the permit is issued. Rangers will not issue permits during the last hour of visitor center operations.
Permits must be obtained at the district visitor center nearest to where the trip originates. For example, if your trip is in the Needles, you must pick up the permit at the Needles Visitor Center. Visitors entering the backcountry through remote locations (that do not involve passing one of the park's visitor centers) may receive their permits in the mail. In addition, permits for river trips and for campsites along the White Rim Road may be mailed in advance. The reservation office at park headquarters in Moab is the issuing visitor center for river trips as well as for mail permits.
In order to receive permits by mail, visitors must contact the reservation office at least two weeks before a trip begins. Groups must provide vehicle information for all vehicles that will be in the park overnight (license plate number, make, model and color), and coordinate parking arrangements for any vehicles left at trailheads before a permit can be mailed.
Reservations
Do I need a reservation? Reservations are highly recommended. Competition is greatest for White Rim trips during the spring and fall, Needles backpacking permits during spring, and for group campsites throughout the year. For these activities, groups should apply as early as possible. In the past few years, the Cataract Canyon allocation has been filling by late April or May. Unreserved campsites are made available to walk-ins on a first come, first served basis. Walk-in permits may be obtained only at district visitor centers. Reservations are made by mail or fax only. Write to the park for a reservation form.

Just saw this update for the White Rim Trail. My plans are to head up Shafer from near Moab. I did this last year and it is beautiful. You don't go up the switchbacks this way. This lengthens the trip, but it is worth it. I am planning on spending two nights and 3 days out. I want to take my time and do side trials if they look interesting. I am not coming in until Sunday, April 8th. Planning on going out the 11th and returning the 13th. (Holy poop, just noticed it's Friday the 13th!) SR1355 is coming with me. (Maybe not. Just noticed his post above.) Anybody else is welcome to join me.
Count on food for 3 days. At least 5 gallons of water per truck. Camping gear. Not sure the temps at night on the Canyon floor.
Packing my truck tomorrow, leaving Monday for Florida. See everyone soon.

Count me in for the White Rim run Neocon... Just let me know the dates and if I owe you anything for permit.
I'll have plenty-o-room for any extra gear... I just completed mock-up of 18X48 jamboree rack plus I'll have roof rack for overflow. Anyone got any thoughts on safe weight limit on spare tire mount. I stood up there (200#) and bounce around a little and it seemed pretty stout... Hoping to put cooler and 2-5 gal jerry cans there...
Bought one of those ultimate extreme cooler and designed rack around that and 2 cans. Cooler is suppose to keep ice for 6 days at 90. Not sure if we'll see that but we'll be able to keep some beverages nice and cold...:beerchug:

Here's my thoughts about running GOlden Spike. Since the dealer from SLC Seiner HUMMER will be coming down on the 12th-13th-14th, maybe we should run it well before that? This way they can bring parts down with them, and since there are tech's coming down, maybe they can do the installation(s). ...just a thought for those wanting to run the harder trails. No sense in doing it at the end of the week and than try to figure out how and where to get parts.

I think the 3's are great all around wheelers, but those (4+) extreme trails are better suited to Mad Max lookin rigs. Right after JS they will probably be heinous with all the buggies going through there, shoot video!

Awwee, they're not that bad... :D
Nose Dive on BTR's. There is a two foot drop at the bottom.
These are from White Knuckel Hill. It is my understanding that most of the Jeeps run BTR backwards so they can climb this obstacle. There is no bypass. The trick is to have a great spotter, lower yourself down as far as you can, inching your way as far down as you can, then you have about a 2.5 foot slide. If you have a heavy front end, you will hit a little harder than others. In the first two pictures, we tried to go to the left side. Don't try this-it didn't work. All he did was spin around till he almost rolled. We ended up winching him back up and went the usual route down the middle. These are from 9/06. The previous year, there was a Hummer who hit too hard and pushed his winch up into the radiator. I'm not sure what model it was though.

No winch line or strap. No, it's not that bad if you are in the right position. I have lots of video of it but have not posted any. I need to get it edited and make some clips. I did not see any clips of Hummer's posted on this obstacle.

Damn Tim I didn't say it was Pritchett.
I heard it has spectacular views and runs along the cliff.
Black Bear Road in Ouray isn't difficult to run, but there is considerable "pucker factor" on the first couple switchbacks, due mainly to the descent you're in for if you screw it up. It makes it interesting. I heard Cliff Hanger was kinda like that.

Cliffhanger sounds pretty cool. I'm up for it. The H1 boys did it when we there last year. There's some major pucker factor, but I don't think it's that bad to get through - not like BTR or Pritchett.

Yeti 575. Nothing better than that!
I'm am going to bike a lot. Last trip I went every morning before guys like Adam got out of bed. I normally rode from the Gonzo up to the Slick Rock trail - did the practice loop, then rode back home. That took me about an hour or so.
The Slick Rock trail (full version) is a must. It's really not that difficult if you simply walk the tough climbs. The slickrock on bike tires is just like with your your rig - you have unbelievable grip, so the decents are easy.
If you're into MTB at all, you'll be sorry if you don't bring your bike. You see guys riding all over the place and it's a blast.
Oh, and I don't mind riding slow if you some of you weekend warriors want to go. I'll probably do a few hard core rides, but not everything.

Oh man. We can all watch in Adam's room.
Corey/Adam,
We need to leave early enough to get there in time!
Um, we can leave whenever we want. You're the one who's bound by the good book (or something). We are merely being nice and waiting for you.

Just wondering on what hotels everyone is staying at, I know the Gonzo is the main one. Anyone staying at the Ramada, or Aarchway inn?
Gonzo, of course. Some of us are "members" and I don't mean dicks.

Is it too late for a new guy to show up and try some of the easier trails or is this a member exclusive event?

CAN'T WAIT! :D :D :D Love a good road trip.
Sounds like the Gonzo is where to meet up each day to get in a group, what time of the morning should we start up?
How's the weather, Neo? Getting warm, should we expect 70's or 80's?
Who wants to do an Easter drive out on Klondike Bluffs trail? It doesn't look too hard to find your way (anybody done it?), moderate trail, and if it's not wet out we can run back through Arches Nat Park on the way out for the scenic route. I wanna be back in Moab around 3pm Sun.
Somebody sounded off earlier that they were from Breckenridge, CO...who is it? I need a ski report!
May 14th through the 18th is when the guys from Canada will be in Moab. Yes, they hired Dan Mick. They have at least 3 H1's going so far. Unfortunately, I am not able to meet up with them. I was hoping to tag along on the April trip after Easter, but that is not looking good either.

We try to gather around Adam's room at 5AM to get things going.
Most days people head to the diver near the Gonzo at 8AM for breakfast and than between 9AM and 10AM we head out... except when doing Golden Spike. Everyone departs around 8AM for the trail head. LAst time I rolled out of bed about 10AM and caught up though.:D

I hope Alan is going to put the Easter Egg hunt together for us this year. I was really looking forward to Peeps again.

I'm not in Breck, but the ski repot is SPRING LIKE CONDITIONS. Ice in the morning, great late morning through mid afternoon, than to slush toward the bottom.

I've done Klondike. In fact, it was my first trail in Moab. It's very easy. There is one tight spot with a steep decent near the end, that's about it. When you get past that and go the bottom of the trail you head right and hook up with the paved road through through Arches National Park. It's a beautiful drive out thru the park.

weather is looking good should have high 70's maybe low 80's , we have ran on three different trails over klondike bluffs (all easy), its one of the better ways to get into Arches NP ;)

Thanks Tim, that's what I thought we were lookin' at. My kids are geeked for boarding in the mountains, hoping you keep some snow around for us!
Starting to load up toolboxes, parts, beer & gear. New CB installed, all skid plates firmly attached, new head on the H3.
If I wanted to do an impromptu night camping near Fins & Things with the kids, do I need to work ahead of time at getting the permit? Or is that an easy one?
We ran Klondike Bluffs last year for an easy day. It turned out to be a great trail if you follow along with the Guide to Moab UT Trails book. When you get to the large open slick rock sections, there are lots of dinosaur tracks. They will have circles of rocks around them. It was pretty cool! There is also a quick hike you can do that will take you to an overlook. We hiked around those rocks for a while as it was a blast! Also check out Tower Arch as it was well worth the drive and hike.

Should be an easy one. There are a bunch of camping spots along Sand Flats road.

I've heard issues of them being backordered. :lame: Get the P/N's from him and check some of the online sites like gmpartsdirect.com. If you can't find them, I know several of us that will be there will have some.
