Lift or not to lift?

I have searched and searched for this answer so if it has been discused please forgive me. I am tring to decide to lift or not lift. For those of you have installed the 4" Rancho with 37" tires what was the total height gained? Was the Rancho 4" a true 4" or not? Also, were you pleased with the final product, handling, ride etc. Is there anything, just released out there of quality that is 4" or less?

Though this has been discussed a thousand times, I'd say the general concensus for lifts would be to buy the Fabtech 6" lift. I'm sure there are some satisfied Rancho 4" lift owners out there but I've heard too many "bump" rides coming from the 4" kit.

Fabtech's kit fits perfect, looks great and gets the job done.

I would have been satisfied with even a 2" kit but at the time, my only choices were Rancho's and Fabtech's.

The ride is better than factory IMO because now you have the extra cushion from the bigger sidewall tires (which you'll need)

The only thing I didn't like about putting a 6" lift on my truck was I had to run 38's to make it look aesthetically correct. With 38's, I can't stand how gutless the truck has become at highway speeds or when towing something.

I even put 4.56 gears in to help but still not enough for me. I should have gone with 4.88's.

If you don't tow, don't run 70-80 highway with any hills, you'll be fine.

With the bigger tires you'll lose a couple of miles to the gallon (which gears and a programmer will make it back up)

Me personally, well, I had a vibration problem for the longest time. Since I put the liftkit on within a week of owning the truck, I couldn't tell if it was there before the lift.

It took me over a year to get it resolved but I did.

Would I do it again?

You'll gain 1" from going from the 35" to the 37" tires. The Rancho lift will lift it about 4". I talked to a guy @ 4 WHeel Parts that had his 04 done just over a year ago. His was raised just under 6" total he said.

He said it was like riding in a stock truck with a little more lean in the corners.

I run 37's now on the truck without the lift. Once you put the power progarmmer on and change up the shift pattern a little, I don't notice much power differnece at all. Since I went with aftermarket wheels an 13.50 wide tires, the snow/ rain is all over the truck in 2 seconds. You'll want to look into some flares if you like the paint on your truck. I went with the E & G flares. They work great.

As for the rest, I'll let you know more in three weeks. :clapping:

I used to run 37s without a lift. If you get a good alignment, you shouldn't have many problems. Don't waste your money on a lift unless you're going with the 6" (which is WELL worth it!!!!).

Thanks for all the info. I know from all the discussions regarding lifts that the Fabtec is the best one on the market, the only problem is 6" is to much. Has anyone had any experience with the Truxxx lift kits (2"-3"), and if so did you lift the back any and did you upgrade any other parts? Thanks!!
