New HUMMER truck coming in 2009

Automotive News is reporting that a "new Hummer truck" will be launched sometime in 2009. HUMMER's general manager Martin Walsh claims the vehicle will have "unparalleled off-road capabilities" and be "recognizable from a distance." AN is a bit ambiguous referring to the new product as a "Hummer truck" in that we're not entirely sure whether the outlet is talking about a traditional pickup with a bed or referring to the new product as a truck in general though it could have a traditional SUV shape. We expect it will be called either the H3T or H4. Either way, HUMMER has learned with the H3 that downsizing its military-inspired macho looks and maintaining above average off-road prowess can equal big sales. The H3 (shown above disconnected from terra firma) is selling like gangbusters all over the world and has led to a 54-percent rise in sales globally despite the larger H2 waning in popularity.

Martin Walsh also mentioned that a hybrid HUMMER is not in the product pipeline, saying, "it does not allow the vehicle to demonstrate true off-road capability." Since off-roading usually occurs at speeds less than 35 mph, a true hybrid rock-crawler would likely need to run off of its batteries while bounding boulders. We have to imagine some clever software programming to create just the right throttle response would make for a compelling off-roader propelled by electrons. Either way, HUMMER does have plans for flex-fuel versions of its vehicles.

I'll wager they will be getting a black H3 from my driveway as a trade in for one of those :beerchug:

Sweet! Hope they engineer some nice weather-tight storage/coolers into the bed area (similar to the Honda truck).

CAHOOTS!!!!!!

Pay Attention 3bies. This has already been discussed. That pic is a photochop done by some kid and has the same wheelbase as the current H3.

It doesn't have the wheelbase of the H3 test mule that was shown in the spy pics.

"unparalleled off-road capabilities" could also mean "in it's class." The qualifier is pretty important here.

Here's what I suggest is going on. There will be a H3 truck that has the longer wheelbase that has "unparalleled off-road capabilities" for a pickup, maybe.

There is nothing out there on the H4, it's still hidden. It would make GM sense to introduce the H3 truck in '08 as a '09 model, since next year we'll see the new H2s as '08 models.

The H4 will be held onto to release as a 10 year anniversary Hummer edition vehicle, thus waiting until it's too late to effectively introduce a true competitor to the JK.

What GM should do is put everything into overdrive and get these things to market as quickly as possible.

Three words - Dodge Power Wagon. solid axles, front/rear lockers, 4.56 gears, electronic sway bar disconnects, etc.

I've heard that the "H4" will be having the 5.3L as an option, that does not gel with a smaller new vheicle, but with a variation of the H3. Other rumors have also mentioned that the H4 will use the GMT355 platform, same as the H3.

Of course, only GM knows at this point what they are going to do, but I have a feeling that they will play a bad joke on us and call the H3 SUT the H4.

Wouldn't that be a full-sized pickup? I don't think the H3 would be in the same "class" as a Ram pickup. That's what I meant by qualifying it. They get to say crap like that because they will qualify it by saying "in it's class" or something along those lines.

Oh I get it, The new Hummer will have "unparalleled off-road capabilities" compared to other four door mid sized pick ups, priced in the $30k range, with a H and single digit in the name. ;) :D :Dexactly,

That's how they play that game. Just like all of the automakers do with specs, the weird names they come up with for common parts, etc.

Just imagine how much they pay someone to think up that kind of junk.

I don't think the pickup will be called the H4. It really wouldn't make sense. People are going to look at it and think, "Wow, it's an H3 with a pickup bed." So I think H3SUT or H3T are the logical names. Saying H4 would confuse some and aggrivate others. I am wagering that it will be called the H3T in order to take advantage of an already established model name. A lot of people know what the H3T is. They even have model DU(m)B editions at the local mini-marts. Though they may call it the H3SUT to fit in with the structuring that has occurred in the H2 lineup.

SORRY I posted the PICTURE !

A chit pot load of negativism out there girls and guys.

"I don't like this / I don't like that" "a kid drew the picture"
LIKE A BUNCH OF LITTLE KIDS...

If you think you can build/design a better vehicle go to work for GM in their R & D department or other areas that contribute to the final item.

Find ways into FOCUS GROUPS from where they gather SOME info as to customers likes and dislikes.

Write to GM and explain your desires and reasons.

BUT

Remember they build $30000 vehicles for the masses, not 825 DIE HARD FANATICS!

BITCHIN is easy, being constructive is not ...

ps: I can't wait for the response

WTF do you think this is, a private tea party? Just because you're the dumb ass that re-posted a chopped up H3 that some kid did on his Atari, don't try to twist this into a piss on the posters attempt.

Act like you got more than a set of shriveled raisens and man up. You dumbed out on it and the sum-bitch is but ugly and sux. Go take a nap or tend to some blue hair snow-bird complaints.

I know it's a chop, but it's not a bad mockup of an H3sut. Even tho it kind of rips off the H2sut, I still like it better than the spy pics of the H3T.

Sure the short bed makes it useless for people who need a full open truck. But I don't usually need a truck, so a midgate system is just about perfect for me.
