When starting my vehicle this evening, I noticed that the temperature readout on the rear view mirror briefly read, "ICE". The message soon disappeared (2 or 3 seconds) and was replaced by the temperature (38 deg). What does this message indicate? The owners manual makes no mention of such a message. Anyone?

i have gotten this message too, plenty of time. it seems thats displayed when it detects ice on the windshield, i beleive. you might think its wrong sometimes but it might not be. it can detect very very small frozen amounts of water if they are at the right spot. as your vehicle warms(minutes or seconds later) this little ice will disapear and its gona go back to displaying only the temp.

hope this helps.

All Gm High end vehicles have this feature .Refers to road condition and icing conditions . Sensor is much higher ,therefore can be below 32 degrees on road surface. "The Rebel"

It actually comes on to warn you when temp drops to 37. The mirror is made by Gentex. My other car says it in the manual. Yea its probly because the sensor is higher and they figure plus or minus 5 in there.

Actually, this ICE warning is due to the possible formation of "black ice," which can actually form on the roads when temps are a few degrees higher than freezing (32 degrees F.). In some areas, terrain, shade and wind can allow the roadway to freeze, even if the temps are as high as 37 degrees.

I guess the best people to explain this would be those who live in the mountains. I know that when I was in CO back in the 60s, I hit a patch of ice on a road when it was about 40 degrees outside.

could be comming on to tell you that there is a Vanillla ICE song on the radio. Maybe its a warning that you should stop, Collaborate and listen Ice is back with my brand new invention. Something grabs a hold of me tightly. Then I flow like a harpoon daily and nightly. Will it ever stop? Yo -- I don't know Turn off the lights and I'll glow. To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.
