Do the front and rear tires wear at the same rate? if no,which one wears more?

Usually the front tires wear faster.

X3...as with any 4 wheel drive or heavy vehicle, the key to getting good mileage from the tires is to rotate them frequently.

When you say "rotate tires frequently" are you speaking by mileage or time in months? In other words, what does frequently mean?

Every 3k-5k miles.

I'm nearing 50k miles. I've rotated my ATs every 5k and had three alignments during that time. I've done a mild amount of off roading. I've also been good about maintaining tire pressures. Tread depth wise they're pretty healthy, but I've got a lot of uneven wear on the lugs on the outsides of the tires (all of them) which cause a lot of whoop whooping as you drive.

Despite this I'm really happy with how they've worn. I want them to wear out to further justify an upgrade to 37's beyond offroad/mud performance When that day comes, I plan to start rotating every 2-3k miles.

I rotated maybe 3 times in my 60K on the BFG's. No spare rotation either. I had no noticable increase in wear on the front vs. the back.

If not more often dpending on tire and use. If you have AT's and don;t go off-road much, then every 5k will be fine. If you have MT's and go off-road a lot, then I'd do it more often, every 2-3k. Going off-road will potnetially knock your alignment off, even if you still drives fine, and MT's are more susceptible to wear from alignment issues.

How often do you align? Do you do it yourself or take it in?

Only when it needs it!

Ask "tomp". He's the expert on alignments. :jump:
