key fob question

I was just talking with Dennis about my key fobs not working and he suggested it might have something to do with the Driver Info Centre (DIC) settings. Anyone know whether the H3 has a "fob disable" on the DIC or do I have to RTFM (read the f***ing manual)?

See, I warned about that whole Canadian spelling thing, eh? A fob is two letters closer to a nob than "that push-button thingy for locking and unlocking my H3" but not nearly as descriptive.

You know I did that for you, right? :giggling:

The book says there are four "modes" and provides a sequence to access them. The modes are all regarding how the vehicle will provide feedback (or not) when you use the remote.... to wit:

1- flash parking lights on lock and unlock (default)
2- flash parking lights on lock and unlock, plus horn on lock
3- flash parking lights plus horn on lock and unlock
4- no flash or horn on lock and unlock

None of the modes is a remote disable. It looks like I need to visit the dealer and have him reprogram my remotes again...:confused:

34085 I love to give you Canadians a hard time. Yes, It sounds like you may have to take the ride back to your dealer. But I thought there was some sort of secret, cryptic way to program the remote to the vehicle (or the vehicle to the remote). Something like twisting the headlight switch 4 times, facing the east, turning the ignition key with your left hand and holding your tallywacker with the right 34086 .....well something like that. Seriously though, I read something about this somewhere, on a forum or something. Maybe the experts on this forum can help out.

Mac, I haven't tried with my H3, but in my Explorer with the Viper if I have my cell phone in there on it will interrupt my fob from locking/unlocking and remote starting it. Take it out and all is normal.

In addition, to the cell phone, some places fobs just won't work. There are two locations around here where factory fobs fail to operate. One is a Home Depot (if I parked close to the store), the other is a hospital. Some type of electrical interference is causing the failure. My new fobs with the Viper work!

I do know that automotive fobs are the lowest animal on the FCC list for operating interference. In other words, a fob cannot interfere with anything, but all others may interfere with the fob.

So, if a fob works all the time, but in one or two locations, it most likely is due to the FCC.

Some places (especially hospitals and funeral homes) are buying cellular signal jammers so that might be what's causing your failure. There's only a couple of licenced jammers on the market. Most are unlicenced and therefore not tested for range etc. but you can find & purchase them on the internet, usually cheaper than the licenced ones.

In my case, my cell works and, according to the service guy, my remotes are transmitting... so it's a question of the coding. I'll drop in and have them recode them. At the same time, I'll have them check out why my DIC tells me that I have a tire pressure sensor failure intermittently.

Not that I can see but the DIC gave the "unhappy sensor" message a couple of times. I've checked under the bonnet and in the boot and everything appears to be in order...
