Lift kit, 4" vs 6"

In your opinion, would a 6" kit look like too much lift for 37" tires? I'm waffling between the 4" and 6", and considering my 37" tires are brand new, I'd hate to ride around looking goofy for a couple of years before it's time to replace them. Truthfully, the 6" gives me no advantage over the 4", as I would hardly reap the benefits of 4" of lift given the type of offroading I do. So, admittedly, I'm really just going for looks...and I favor the Fabtech brand over anything else.

Well, after perusing the photo forum, and seeing Albie's truck again, I think I just answered my own question...yes, 6" of lift would look like too much with 37" tires.

What pictures were you looking at? I am also looking at the 4 or 6 lift...I thought the 6 looked OK. Shoot me the link to the comparison pictures you were looking at so I can gauge the difference.... Thanks...

Well, after perusing the photo forum, and seeing Albie's truck again, I think I just answered my own question...yes, 6" of lift would look like too much with 37" tires.I think Albie runs 40" tires with the 6" lift and I think devilsfan has a 6" lift with 37" tires.

Do you have air suspension?

37's are definitely too small for a 6" lift. After I put my lift on, I came across a set of modified stock wheels I really liked but they were 17's. I mounted the 37's on them and put them on my truck. Obviously with 17" rims, they were too narrow but regardless they were too short in height.

I had to put my 38's back on.

I have a 6" with 38's also and I thnk it looks perfect. If you have air suspension, I believe you could crank the torsion bars down (for height reduction) and then use the air suspension ride height adjusters that come with the Fabtech kit to adjust the rear down as well. That way, when it comes new tire time, you can go to 38's and raise it back up to where it needs to be for them.

Rocks is correct. I'm running 37s with a 6" lift.

I also got my tires about a year and a half ago (Goodyears MTRs). They have good tread wear so I'm going to keep them until I need replacements. At that point I'll likely go to 38s.

One thing I do like about the 37s - you can DEFINITELY tell the truck is lifted!

We have the 6" with 38's also. It caused some rubbing and resulted in cutting some of the fender well but they are fine.

They cradle nice and snug when pushed in there. For the street they are great- wheeling with the 6" lift has caused more frequent issues as the IFS becomes weaker. I am unsure of the 4".

I think the way a lift looks (4" or 6") has a lot to do with the Rim size you are using. In my opinion, H2's look best with a 6" lift with 37" or 38" tires with 20" rims...smaller rims give the impression of the lift being higer or the wheels looking too small in the wells....

Nothing your truck to me proves the point. The 20" Rims make the whole package look more (for lack of a better word) even. If you had the same rims, but in say 17"...to me it would still look good, but the rim would just look to small coupled with the big tires and 6" lift...

The smaller rims allow for more grip when aired down because the tires will flex more. Taller rims will cause you more problems when offroad.
